 Williams announces Partnership with Unilever

Williams is pleased to announce that it has signed a new multi-year partnership agreement with the global consumer goods company Unilever, beginning in 2015.

Unilever will use the unique platform of Formula One to further brand awareness for its leading performance deodorant brand, Rexona. The Rexona logo will appear on the sidepod, front wing and front wishbones of the Williams Mercedes FW37, as well as the team environment and apparel.

Santiago Iturralde, Rexona Global Brand VP, explains: “As the number one global top performance deodorant brand we are delighted to announce this partnership with Williams Martini Racing. Formula One exudes performance and is a captivating sport for millions of our consumers worldwide.”

“The adrenaline, stress, temperature and movement that the drivers, team and fans experience during a Formula One race undoubtedly make them sweat. This is the ultimate torture test for a deodorant – and Rexona won’t let you down,” adds Iturralde.

Furthermore Williams Advanced Engineering, the technology and engineering services business of the Williams Group, will be working with Unilever to provide support in the areas of sustainability and efficiency.

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, Williams Martini Racing, says: “We’re delighted to be partnering with a company of Unilever’s global stature in what is a long term collaboration. Williams has a history of partnering with consumer brands to elevate their global reach and we will be using the full range of marketing tools afforded by Formula One and Williams to help Unilever and Rexona achieve their goals. We both have a commitment to sustainability and we will be sharing Williams Advanced Engineering’s growing expertise in energy efficient technologies to jointly tackle this important issue.”

Williams Martini Racing has enjoyed a recent resurgence in performance with a successful 2014 campaign. Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas ended the season in Abu Dhabi on the podium in second and third respectively, securing third place in the Constructors’ Championship.

Great news. Unilever and Diageo are now using Williams as a global consumer goods / drinks platform.

Wonder if Williams can poach Microsoft from Lotus too. Think williams headhunted Lotus's head of IT

I feel the length of the deal is higher than 2 years. Claire referred to it as a "long term" that would imply 3+ years. However, it's unlikely we will know the truth on this until they disappear.

$15 Million dollars is a good amount for a sponsor, it is effectively matching Martini's payments, so the exposure will be reasonable. If we are bringing a couple more on board then this bodes incredibly well for our financial security. Go Williams

Deal brokered by JMI. Just Marketing International. This is the Zak brown business which has former Mr Marlboro man John Hogan as consultant.

Probably the leading sponsorship / product engagement business in motorsport worldwide.

They act for Unilever, Diageo, UPS, UBS et...see client list link below;

The good thing for Williams is JMI must believe in the Williams resurgence and that it is hear to stay as they have not put two brands into Williams. Not a vote fo confidence in lotus either is it.

This announcement is for Rexona, Unilever also act for Clear the anti dandruff shampoo. wonder if thta will leave Lotus for us now

Thats a really good result- $15m further along the road away from on track conservative crisis aversion.

Martini's initial plan was £10 mil per annum with certain performance and exposure clauses built in. It is to my understanding that once the car was deemed good, they expanded their territory with a larger engine cover sticker and minor stickers on the front wing pillars that came out huge on the nosecone camera (and subsequently is going to be considered a more valuable spot on most f1 cars.)

it is to my understanding that they are looking to make Martini more visible from a head-on view of the car, as the rear wing is harder to read. (they have tried many solutions to making the Martini logo more legible on the rear wing from start to end of season)

"Great news. Unilever and Diageo are now using Williams as a global consumer goods / drinks platform."

Diageo and Martini do not go together. Martini is owned by Bacardi.

They have tried weird solutions that involve mixing stripes with half sized martini logos. Make the word 'martini' span the full height and width of the rear wing, white on black and forget about the stripes for that surface.

McLaren is known to have made strong overtures to Unilever for this deal, so beating their old rivals to the signature will be gratifying for the Williams commercial people.

I think McLaren failed to secure Martini too. We are all lead to believe they have several title sponsors gagging to appear on their car alongside Honda, and McLaren can't decide which, but the evidence of the last couple of seasons suggests otherwise.

I am still surprised that there is that large blank white area on the sidepods of the FW36.

Are we still looking to fill it?
Still saving it for a manufacturer type whale of a sponsor?
Any word on a plan MikeF1?

The sidepods will be filled with Rexona. Tho it is not yet certain in what size that will be. The space above the entry of the side pod will be reserved for Avenade. Where Green Flag used to be.

I luv this quote:

"while it was working on new deals for 2015, Williams senior managers, Claire Williams and Mike O’Driscoll, said that the sponsor money was finding the team due to the attraction of Williams as a challenger to the currently established top teams,
“We have a lot of conversations now about ‘challenger brands’, because we are now a challenger brand,” said Williams. “People like that story. But we’ve always been a challenger in a sense because we used to win on smaller budgets than Ferrari and McLaren.”
