After a difficult opening Friday practice session for the 2014 British GP the Williams Martini team would see both their cars return to the track in the seciond session. Valtteri Bottas would finish the session in an encouraging 6th while Felipe massa was down in 11th. Felipe would not return t the track until mid session as his mechanics had a lot of work to do to complete the repairs after his earlier accident.

With the mechanics still hard at work to complete the repairs of Felipe Massa's car the Williams Martini team would start the second Friday practice session for the 2014 British Grand Prix by sending out Valtteri Bottas. Valtteri's car had stopped in the first session with Suzie Wolff at the wheel. This car had suffered from an engine related issue but the team had been able to fix this. Valtteri would be the first driver to set a time in the session with a 1m:39.032. But Valtteri's time would be quickly passed with Valtteri dropping to fifth. Button was fastest, 1m:37.608, from Kvyat and Vergne. It was at this time the Williams team would say that all the corners of Felipe's car were repaired and that they expected to see him out soon.

Button would lower the quickest time with a 1m:37.414 but Valtteri would also improve moving to the top of the times with a 1m:37.363. With nearly twenty minutes of the session complete it would be Rosberg fastest with a 1m:35.645 with Alonso second. But Hamilton would again make it a Merced one-two by setting a new quickest time with a 1m:35.424. Ricciardo would move up to fourth while Vettel was seventh, but he would improve to be fifth. Valtteri had dropped to seventh while Felipe was still in his pit. But with just under thirty minutes of the session Felipe was back out on the track. We also had the first of the drivers out on the medium tyre, Ericsson and Gutierrez. Felipe was now in seventh to be ahead of Valtteri being down in ninth.

Felipe would improve to be sixth as other drivers took to the medium tyre including Alonso, Magnussen and both Force India cars. Rosberg would also come out on the softer tyre setting a 1m:34.736 to be fastest by seven tenths. But Hamilton would pass his team-mate with a 1m:34.508. Alonso was down in fourth but on the medium tyre would move up to third. With forty minutes left in the session the order was Hamilton, Rosberg, Alonso, Ricciardo, Vettel, and Valtteri sixth. Felipe was now down in eleventh while at the front we would have the sight of Hamilton stopping out on the track with and engine issue. Hamilton would lose some valuable time out on the track. Valtteri would be forced to pit with parts missing from his engine cover having lost it while going down the Hangar straight.

The session would come to an end with Valtteri sixth and Felipe eleventh. A great effort from the Williams team to get both cars out on the track collecting valuable data in the lead-up to Saturday. The top ten would be Hamilton, Rosberg, Alonso, Ricciardo, Vettel, Valtteri, Button, Magnussen, Raikkonen and Vergne.
