Jerez Test 07:01:2003 Day Two of Four

For the BMW WilliamsF1 team their 2003 preparations at the Jerez circuit would see their second day of testing affected by wet weather. Again it was down to Marc Gene and Ralf Schumacher to conduct the testing, and both had to make the most of the variable conditions. WilliamsF1 were joined by Ferrari.

Ralf SchumacherThe early part of the day would see the team take the opportunity for Marc and Ralf to test their new Michelin tyres in wet weather conditions. But as the day progressed the sun would come out allowing for some dry weather running.

For Ralf Schumacher, whose day would focus on tyre testing in the afternoon, he would finish with the second fastest time of the day behind Ferrari's Luca Badoer, with a time of 1m:21.029 minutes on the forty second lap. Ralf would complete seventy nine laps.

For team-mate Gene he would focus on set-up work on the FW24 chassis, while putting more miles on the new P83 BMW engine. Marc would set a best time of 1m:22.251after completing fifty seven laps.

For BMW WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Tim Newton he would comment on the day by saying: "We were expecting heavy rain today but conditions fluctuated between dry and wet, with the track taking longer than expected to dry out. We continued to work through our testing agenda of chassis work, brakes and tyre work with Michelin."
