| Barcelona Test 04:12:2002 - Day Two of Three | |
The second day, Wednesday,
of the BMW WilliamsF1 teams Barcelona test would see Ralf Schumacher join
Juan Pablo Montoya and Marc Gene as the team continued their preparations for
the 2003 season. The
days testing was run under sunny but cold conditions with six different
teams present. At the end of the day Ralf would set the fastest time amongst
the WilliamsF1 drivers. He would complete fifty three laps with a best lap
time of 1m:17.819. Ralf would only have one problem and that was with his
P82 engine which would be changed. For Juan Pablo he would end only slightly over a tenth of a second slower than his team-mate. He would complete eighty three laps while he carried out tyre testing for Michelin as well as further testing the new P83 engine. Ralf and Juan Pablo would finish with the fifth and sixth fastest times. Marc Gene would also use the new BMW P83 engine with Marc completing thirty four laps. He would set a time of 1m:18.715 putting him behind Juan Pablo in seventh. As for the other teams it was somewhat of a surprise to see Toyota team driver Olivier Panis set the best time of the day with a lap time of 1m:17.190. Tim Newton, WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager, had the following comments: “Ralf Schumacher joined the test team today in Barcelona alongside Marc Gené and Juan Pablo Montoya. Juan completed a tyre program for Michelin and clocked up a useful 84 laps with the P83 engine. Ralf also was able to complete all the test items on the list. Marc continued to put more mileage on the new P83 engine. Today was a busy day with the three cars and a full test team, but I am pleased with the level of productivity and all the hard work being done by the guys”. |
