The second Friday practice would see a drying track and with the start of the session there would be a rush of drivers taking to the track to set a time. Dry tyres were now is use for this session despite there been a few damp patches around the circuit. For the AT&T Williams team Rubens Barrichello would come out early and he would set the second fastest time behind Hamilton, 1m:32.955. Drivers would improve seeing Rubens drop down to fourth, 1m:31.291, even though he improved his time. Pastor Maldonado was still in his pit as Petrov went fastest with a 1m:29.926. Rosberg was second running on the harder tyre. With ten minutes of the session completed Rubens was sixth with a 1m:30.172.

Joining Pastor in the pits was Vettel whose car was badly damaged in the first Friday practice. Hamilton had set a new fastest time with a 1m:28.345 moving ahead of team-mate Button. Button would improve to move ahead of Hamilton with a 1m:28.222. Rubens was now third with a 1m:29.493. Buemi was fourth from Massa, Alonso, Petrov, Perez, Sutil, and Di Resta in tenth. Both McLarens were now in their pits while Rubens was getting to grips with the new front wing on his FW33. Rubens had swapped over to the new wing early on in the session. His time was set on the hard tyre while at the front Rosberg would go fastest with a 1m:28.215.

Petrov would improve to be fourth, 1m:28.953. Rubens would complete a pit lane run through
returning to the track. Rubens would pit after completing twelve laps. Petrov would find some time setting a 1m:28.472 but would remain fourth. Rubens was now fifth as Schumacher went fastest with a 1m:28.165. Heidfeld was now sixth seeing Rubens drop to seventh. Button and Hamilton were now in third and fourth. Pastor was now in his car getting ready to come out. Pastor would also have the new front wing fitted on his car. Alguersuari was now in eighth, 1m:29.512. Pastor would take to the track joined by Rubens with just under an hour remaining.

Pastor would begin his first flying lap as Buemi moved up to sixth, 1m:29.077. Perez would also improve to be eighth seeing Rubens drop to ninth. Pastor's first lap was a 1m:31.486 while he next one would be a 1m:29.740 to be fourteenth. Massa was showing some pace but he would make a few mistakes only moving up to sixth, 1m:28.917. Rubens had also found some time with a 1m:28.946 to be seventh. Pastor appeared to be having a few problems getting things sorted out spinning his car again at Turn eighth. Pastor would go onto the grass but was able to continue. Massa was now fastest with a 1m:27.959 while Rubens would pit. Pastor was now thirteenth, 1m:29.670, while reports had Rubens now running a new rear wing.

Petrov was now fastest with a 1m:27.517, running on the softer tyre. We now had both Mercedes cars out on the track with Schumacher improving to be second, 1m:27.892. Rubens had pitted while at the front it was Rosberg now fastest with a 1m:27.352. Pastor continued to put in laps on the track but he was over two seconds off the pace. For Red Bull Webber was down in seventeenth while Vettel was still in his pit waiting for his car to be repaired. On the hard tyres Rosberg would be fastest with a 1m:26.961. Pastor had pitted having completed ten laps. On the softer tyre Webber would improve to be second with a 1m:27.270. Webber had used both KERS and DRS on his lap. Buemi was sixth seeing Rubens drop to tenth and Pastor sixteenth. Alonso had spun his car at Turn six with
the rear of the car losing traction sending Alonso around. He was able to make it back to the pits only to stop in the pit lane with a problem.

Alonso would be pushed up the pit entry by the marshals to be taken over by Ferrari mechanics. While all this was happening Perez would move up to fourth with a 1m:27.844, running on the softer tyre. Hamilton was out on the track running with the softer tyre. He would set a 1m:27.033 to be second. Rubens would head back out while Schumacher moved into third with a 1m:27.063, running on the softer tyre. Rubens would go off at Turn one but would continue. Pastor was also out on the track with Pastor now ahead of Rubens in twelfth with a 1m:28.924. Rubens time was a 1m:28.946. On the softer tyre Button was on a quick lap setting the fastest time with a 1m:26.456. Second placed Rosberg was back out on the track while Rubens had pitted.

Rosberg was on the soft tyre going fastest in sector one. Di Resta was now ninth with Pastor and Rubens thirteenth and fourteenth. Rosberg would improve his time with a 1m:26.521 but stayed in second. Di Resta would improve to be eighth, 1m:27.725, to be behind Petrov. Twenty five minutes left in the session. and Pastor was back in his pit. Sutil was up to tenth like others setting his time on the soft tyre. Alonso was now only in eleventh followed by Buemi and Heidfeld. Webber was now fifth, 1m:27.149. Pastor and Rubens were now in fifteenth and sixteenth. Hamilton was third from Schumacher, Webber, Massa, Petrov, Di Resta, Perez and Sutil.

With just over fifteen minutes remaining Pastor would return to the track. The track was now quite busy with the drivers coming out for their final runs. Pastor would stop again having again spun his car after having run wide over the kerb putting his right rear wheel onto the astro turf. The rear of his car would snap sideways and he would slide across the grass with the front of the car hitting the barrier. Pastor would get out of his damaged Williams. One new front wing destroyed. Pastor has been struggling in both Friday sessions which is surprising given that this track should not be new to him having run a GP2 car here last year. Rubens was still in his pit with seven minutes remaining.

Pastor's car would be lifted away behind the barrier. Several drivers were running on the harder tyre in this closing period of the session. The reports had Rubens with a KERS water leak explaining why he had not returned to the track. With this issue he would not be coming back out. Williams can do without reliability issue as well as drivers making simple mistakes as they try and pull themselves back up the order. With the end of the session Button was still fastest from Rosberg, Hamilton, Schumacher, Webber, Massa, Petrov, Di Resta, Perez, and Sutil in tenth. Pastor and Rubens would finish the session in fifteenth and sixteenth.
