JEREZ TEST DAY ONE
THURSDAY 10 FEBRUARY, 2011
Driver Pastor Maldonado
Chassis / engine FW33-01 / CA320
Location Jerez de la Frontera 4.428km
Objectives Mileage on FW33, aero testing, setup work
Weather Dry and sunny all day
Ambient & track temps 23ºC / 28ºC

MaldonadoWith Pirelli brining all four compounds of their dry tyre to Jerez (super soft, soft, medium and hard), as well as intermediates and wets the AT&T Williams team would commence their test at the Jerez circuit.

Early in the morning session Pastor Maldonado would take to the circuit with the FW33 for the first time today. The car was fitted with the wake measuring device on its sidepod that was first seen in Abu Dhabi. After completing some installation laps Pastor would return to his pit. By the middle of the day Pastor had yet to set a time. Halfway through the day and Massa was fastest with a 1m:20.709 while Pastor had only completed two untimed laps. It was later confirmed that Pastor had a small problem with his rear wing actuator. The reason why it took so long to fix was that the installation is on top of the gearbox.

Later in the day Pastor was able to return to the track but Pastor would complete just fourteen laps, following the problem with the car's rear wing actuator in the morning. The team hoped to return to the track for more running in the afternoon but in the end managed just a couple of short stints.

Sam Michael, Technical Director: It has not been a productive day for us I'm afraid. After the installation lap we had a problem with a bleed screw for the rear wing hydraulic actuator. It is straightforward to correct, however during the day it caused a lot of downtime as we shuffled parts around to get the car out on the track. On the positive side, in the late afternoon we did complete all the aero testing that required the front tyre rake, so that will come off tonight.

AT&T Williams will return to test on Friday 11 February, with Pastor Maldonado continuing in the FW33 for the second day of the test.
