Japanese
GP Qualifying delayed until Sunday
With he final
practice session all but washed out, with just two drivers setting times,
there was uncertainty as to whether qualifying for the 2010 Japanese Grand
Prix would go ahead. The rain continued across the gap between practice and
qualifying and reports had the rain continuing well past the hour for
qualifying. The scheduled start of qualifying would pass with the rain
continuing to fall. It was then confirmed that qualifying was going to be
delayed until 2:30PM local time.
The Safety Car was sent out to check the track conditions with rivers of
water still running across the track. IT would return to the pit lane and it
was now confirmed that the session would be delayed again this time until
3PM local time. But there was still no sign of the rain easing. The Safety
Car was back out ten minutes prior to the 3PM start time. It would return to
the pit lane and another delay was announced, this time 3:30PM local time.
It would finally
be announced that qualifying would be delayed until Sunday morning. Exactly
what time was yet to be confirmed.
Christian Horner
of Red Bull Racing in an interview with German broadcaster Sky said: "I
don't think the sun is coming out. There's so much standing water that's
running on to the track as well, so I think it's impossible to run
qualifying today"
