Bridgestone Feature - Round 1, Bahrain GP
By Bridgestone
March 9 2010
All change for 2010…. The return of Michael Schumacher, no more refuelling, new teams and a new width Bridgestone front tyre are all important factors for what is already one of the most talked about Formula One seasons for decades.

This tyre rule - starting on the qualifying tyre - what do you think?
Why do they keep inventing rules that make you use the wrong tyres? And why do teams agree to them?

Sure? The zillion dollar supercomputers will be busy predicting exactly how long the wrong tyres won't last and how many nanotenths are lost.

Compulsory tyre changes should be thrown away. If a car is good enough to get through a race on one set of tyres it should be allowed to do it. If a car would run for the whole race on a hard compound say, but would be slower earlier on then let so be it. Let teams choose their own compounds. Teams would then put more effort into basic mechanical grip.
Williams and proud of it.

I think that's a very good idea, pgj. From what I can gather, Michelin are pushing to prevent tyre changes completely for 2011. This is because they want to demonstrate the durability of their tyre. This would result in no pitstops which I think is a bad idea, but I don't think refuelling should then be reintroduced to add an extra dimension as the current ban is very sensible for the times- its green. So perhaps yours is the solution? allow tyre changes, but make it non-obligatory, and ensure Michelin make it difficult to achieve, but not impossible.

I have never been a fan of pitstops. Pitstops were always an option but were more often a last resort. We should allow good engineering to win races rather than penalising it. I do not propose going back to the days when cars ran with four different compounds. But we should be rewarding good engineering.

For
this year there are significant changes which influence Bridgestone’s tyres.
Slick tyres – re-introduced last year after eleven years absence, remain,
but with significant re-engineering from those used last year.
