Not between team-mates

As both Juan Pablo and Ralf came onto the long main straight of the Indianapolis circuit Juan Pablo was able to challenge Ralf going into the first corner. What happened next had even WilliamsF1 team members, as seen on the television coverage, throw their hands up in disbelief.

Race StartWith the pair approaching the first corner side by side, with Juan Pablo on the outside for the corner, both would go into the corner together. Juan Pablo would try to use this outside line to go around Ralf but, as the television would reveal, Ralf would spin and his rear wing would hit the right rear tyre of Juan Pablo's FW24.

Ralf would lose his rear wing and have to pit for repairs losing him over a minute, while Montoya was able to continue, after having dropped several places. Now with the race completed both drivers have had there opportunity to give their comments on the incident.

Juan Pablo & Ralf come togetherJuan Pablo would say: "I was passing Ralf and I braked late. I was going round the outside and suddenly he hit me. I think he braked a lot later."

Ralf's comments were : "A very disappointing outcome."

Ralf added: "It is always difficult to pass anyone on the outside. There wasn’t a lot of room there at all. Anyway, before giving an accurate opinion I should have a proper look at the TV images first.

"Most important is that such things should not happen between team-mates no matter who’s responsible. It was very annoying that I had been pushed so far back, as my car today was really good."

Despite the coming together Juan Pablo was able to go on an finish fourth and as a result the WilliamsF1 team secured second place in the Constructors championship.
