 Williams aim to increase budget

Gone are the days when the Williams team had the backing of a major manufacturer to support them financially but the team is still pushing ahead to secure having the resources it needs to return to be amongst the front teams in Formula One, according to team co-owner Patrick Head.

FW30 & DriversSince the Williams team lost backing of the manufacturer BMW prior to the start of the 2006 season, the team has slowly moved forward in terms of securing the resources that will enable to to be successful. 2007 would see the team finish fourth in in the teams' championship. With the new FW30 the Williams team is hoping that 2008 will continue to se the team move upwards but for Patrick Head he is realistic enough to limit his expectations for the upcoming season.

In an article in British magazine F1 Racing Head said: "I don't think we expect to win the drivers' or constructors' championship next season because we don't have strong enough resources at the moment to back that up, but we're on an upswing.

"And when you're on an upswing, people are prepared to invest in you because they know you're likely to get more time on television. So we're certainly seeing a strengthening environment now," he added.

"So at the moment we have a stepwise programme to increase the budget."
