WilliamsF1 boosts Technical Department

In addition to the announcement of a new title sponsor the WilliamsF1 team has also been busy securing the services of new technical staff  to boost their aerodynamic and design teams.

According to Autosport magazine the WilliamsF1 team has employed Jon Tomlinson, Renault's deputy head of aerodynamics, to fill the role of the head of the WilliamsF1's aerodynamics department. Joining him will be Amit Chakraborty,  former McLaren senior aerodynamicist.

In the design area the team has employed former Prodrive designer Ed Wood in the role of Chief designer. Joining him will be ex-Jaguar Racing chief designer John Russell.

When interviewed by Autosport in regard to these new appointments Frank Williams said: "This raft of new talent represents probably the most significant single exercise in augmenting our technical skills base in the company's history.

"I am delighted that Williams retain their appeal for some of the industry's senior practitioners and that we have managed to secure some of the very best technical talent in the business."

Williams CEO Chris Chapple said that the WilliamsF1 team was working hard to return to the top of the Formula One teams and these recruitments were part of this process. He said: "In terms of the facilities we have at Williams there's nothing we can't do here. What we've done with these appointments is strengthen our team to realise their potential more fully. This is by no means the end of that process."
