The WilliamsF1
team commenced their four day test programme at the Silverstone Circuit with
Narain Karthikeyan been given the opportunity to test drive an interim FW28
powered by a Toyota engine.
The
car was running a Toyota engine and 2007 gearbox as the team made their
first steps with their 2007 engine supplier. Narain would only be able to
complete a handful of laps after the car was forced to stop running after
suffering gearbox problems.
WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Mike Condliffe commented on the days testing.
He said: “Today saw the first running of the Toyota engine and the Williams
2007 gearbox in an FW28B chassis. We completed some short runs for system
checks and encountered various teething issues on the chassis side that we
will rectify for tomorrow's running. As with most new projects, there are
plenty of items that need work. Tomorrow, Alex Wurz joins Narain on track.”
