After spending
four days at the Jerez circuit the WilliamsF1 team would move to the
Hockenheimring for the 2006 German Grand Prix. The opening Friday practice
session would see the Friday drivers again dominate proceedings. The
WilliamsF1 team had announced that they would be joining Toyota starting in
2007.
With the start of the session Robert Doornbos in his Red Bull would come out
followed by Kubica, Jani, Wurz, Yamamoto, Sato, Davidson and Winkelhock.
They would complete their installation laps. Anthony Davidson and Alex Wurz
would continue to circulate and they would be joined by Tiago Monteiro in
his MF1 Toyota. Alex would set the early quickest time followed by Davidson.
Monteiro would pit. The quickest time from 2005 was a 1m:14.277s. Both
Davidson and Alex would improve their times as Robert Kubica came back out
followed by Winklehock in his MF1 Toyota. Team-mate Albers was also out on
the track joined by Jani and Doornbos. Davidson would pit. With fifteen
minutes of the session run Doornbos would spin his Red Bull Ferrari. Kubica
was now second fastest ahead of Davidson, Doornbos, Winkelhock and Jani.
Alex would pit.
Yamamoto would set his first timed lap in the teams new SA06. Team-mate
Takuma Sato was also on track. Kubica was now fastest in his BMW Sauber.
Davidson was back on track. He would improve to be second fastest. Alex
would return to the circuit and move into second. Davidson was now fastest
from Kubica, Wurz, Jani, Doornbos, Winkelhock, Sato and Yamamoto. Scott
Speed would come out for the first time. He was joined by Doornbos who would
move into third.
With just the fastest three drivers on track Toyota's Jarno Trulli would
come out with team-mate Ralf Schumacher following. With half the session
left Kubica was now fastest. Both Trulli and Ralf Schumacher would pit and
head back out. Heidfeld was is on track in his BMW Sauber. He would be
joined by Jacques Villeneuve. The first of the Renault's, that of Giancarlo
Fisichella was out on
his installation lap.
Both Villeneuve and Heidfeld would return to their
pits. Kubica was still fastest. Fisichella would pit as team-mate Alonso
completed his installation lap. Klien and Liuzzi would take to the track,
joined by Davidson. Davidson would go fastest as Coulthard came out. Alex
would improve to be fastest as Sato became the only driver on track. With
fifteen minutes remaining
in the session only eight drivers had completed a timed lap. Button made his
first appearance joined by Kubica. Honda team-mate Barrichello was also out
on the track.
Button would move into fifth fastest as McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa headed
out for his first laps. Barrichello was now seventh fastest as Raikkonen
took to the circuit. Both McLaren drivers would pit after their installation
lap. With five minutes left Heidfeld, Villeneuve, Rosberg, Coulthard and
several other drivers would take to the track. Alex would again improve his
best time with a
time of 1m:16.349. Albers was now fourth as it all went wrong for Nico as he
crashed his Williams, going off under braking for turn two. It would appear
that Nico spun on oil from the MF1 of Albers. He would lose his rear as his
car crashed into the tyre barriers.
With the end of
the session Alex was fastest from Davidson, Kubica, Button, Doornbos,
Barrichello, Alonso, Jani, Fisichella and Coulthard. WilliamsF1's Mark
Webber would fail to take to the track even for an installation lap. He was
joined by both of the Ferrari's who also sat out the session. |
