French GP Saturday Practice

With Alex Wurz fourth fastest and Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg in eighteenth and twentieth positions after Friday qualifying the WilliamsF1 drivers were optimistic about their chances for the rest of the weekend.

But on another hot day at Magny-Cours the third practice session would get underway. MF1's Christijan Albers would be first to head out. He would be joined by team-mate Tiago Monteiro and the Super Aguri Honda of Takuma Sato. All three drivers would return to their pits after an installation lap. Coulthard would be next out and the Red Bull driver would start a timed lap. Team-mate Klien would also come out. Coulthard would finish with a time of 1m:21.027 after improving his time on his second lap. Liuzzi was also out on the track.

RosbergButton, Ralf Schumacher and Monteiro would leave the pit lane. Trulli was also to come out early in the session. Coulthard would pit while Ralf Schumacher and Trulli would set their first times with Ralf going fastest ahead of Jarno. Liuzzi was now in fourth followed by Button. Albers, and Monteiro. Several other drivers including Villeneuve, Nico, Barrichello, Raikkonen, de la Rosa, and Montagny would all come out.

Trulli would move ahead of Ralf with a time of 1m:19.297 but his time was beaten by Scott Speed with a 1m:18.608. Barrichello was now in third, while Nico moved into eighth with a time of 1m:21.143. Monteiro was now in fifth. Villeneuve was down in twelfth. Barrichello would improve to now be in second, 1m:18.961. Nico was now in sixth just behind an improved Villeneuve who was in fifth. Rubens would pit joining Button. Michael Schumacher was out on the track and his first lap would see him move ahead of Rubens to take second, 1m:18.664. Nico was still out on the track and would lower his time to move into fifth, 1m:19.435. He would then pit.

Michael's next lap would see him go fastest, 1m:18.515. Mark Webber had taken to the track joined by Alonso, Massa, Heidfeld, and Fisichella. Michael would lower his time with a 1m:18.214. Of the McLaren's de la Rosa was fastest in eighth and Raikkonen in eleventh. After spinning his car Massa would set a time of 1m:19.120 to move into fourth. Michael would pit. Klien would go third fastest
while Massa would improve to now be in second, 1m:18.396. Scott Speed had come back out and was now in third. But after not having been way down the times it would be Button who would go fastest with a time of 1m:17.476.

Mark was currently in fifteenth and Nico twelfth. Fisichella had moved into sixth, 1m:18.799, while team-mate Alonso was in ninth, 1m:19.233. Trulli and Heidfeld were now in seventh and eighth. With half the session run the top ten was Button from Michael, Massa, Speed, Klien Fisichella, Trulli, Heidfeld, Alonso, and Barrichello. De la Rosa was down in sixteenth and Raikkonen nineteenth. Both
Mark and Nico had returned to their pits. There were only a handful of drivers now on the track including Speed, Barrichello, Ralf, and Coulthard. Trulli would come back out as Ralf returned to his pit. In a bit of a surprise Coulthard would move into second, 1m:17.859, but he may have been doing his preparations for qualifying.

Nico was back out on the track. He would be joined by both of the McLaren's and Button. Kimi would be on a quick lap that would see him in second, 1m:17.556. De la Rosa would move into fourteenth after been quickest in the first two sectors but slowing in the final one after missing his braking point and losing time. Nico and Mark were now in sixteenth and eighteenth. Raikkonen would set his
time on new tyres. De la Rosa would match his team-mate moving into third, 1m:17.653. Coulthard was now in fourth. Michael and Massa were in fifth and sixth.

Liuzzi would improve to now be in fifth, 1m:18.199. Both McLaren's would pit. Mark would return to the track with just over fifteen minutes remaining. Nico would pit having failed to improve his position. Massa was back out but would pit. He was joined by Button. Mark would also pit. The Renault's of Fisichella and Alonso were in tenth and fourteenth. With ten minutes left the order was Button, Raikkonen, De la Rosa, Coulthard, Liuzzi, Michael, Massa, Speed, Klien, and Fisichella. There would be little activity as most drivers came into their pits getting ready to make their practice qualifying runs prior to the end of the session.

Coulthard would come back out joined by Heidfeld. Nico and Mark were currently in seventeenth and twentieth. De la Rosa would also return to the track. Trulli and Nico would come back out with seven minutes left. The next driver to come out was Massa. Trulli's lap would see him fastest, 1m:17.422. Now there was a rush of drivers coming out. Nico's lap would see him move ahead of Trulli with a
time of 1m:17.188. Trulli would improve to move ahead of Nico, 1m:17.056. Massa would pit leaving just the Ferrari's in the pit lane. Trulli would pit.

Ralf would move into seventh one place ahead of Michael. Villeneuve would be the next driver to move to the top of the times, 1m:17.005. He would be joined by team-mate Heidfeld who was now in second, 1m:17.049. Mark's lap would see him move into fifth, 1m:17.358, to be behind Nico who had pitted. Button was in sixth followed by Raikkonen and de la Rosa. Mark would pit as the session came to an end. Ninth and tenth were Ralf and Coulthard. The Renault's of Fisichella and Alonso were down in eleventh and sixteenth. Alonso would spin his car at the Adelaide hairpin. The Ferrari's were down in fourteenth and fifteenth while Michael leading Massa.
