Good move, Burns looked more like an ops guy while the new guy is a business man and racer.

Alex Burns will leave the company. The announcement makes no mention of Burns beyond this, which suggests that there is some bad blood in the affair. We hear that it is almost certainly related to the question of Paddy Lowe joining the team, which was on the cards late last year but evaporated soon afterwards. Lowe later signed for Mercedes.

Hmmmm . . I wonder what happened, then? Toto tried to bring Paddy Lowe to Williams, but Alex objected? Did Lowe's expected hiring prompt Gillan's departure?

perhaps he was one of the 'issues' in williams.

Interesting news, also seems that O'Driscoll will play a more prominent role than Burns did. Good background with Jag too.

If what Saward says is correct then we're better off with Burns gone.

I don't get this whole Lowe stuff, was Burns responsible for getting him aboard? did failure to do this result in his ouster? or Burns thought that Lowe was the real deal and seeing him abort his plans, Burns decided to abandon ship too?

How many many bad apples did/do williams have?? at every departure you hear these dry remarks, no clue! I for one, certainly believe Gillian wasn't a bad apple, can we get him back, even if he just wants to stay at the factory, its ok!! Please Claire?? winking smiley

We have a lot of Bad Apples mate. If we didn't, I'm sure the team would be in a much better place.

Man I hope gillian comes back.
He was such a bright light of hope for us last year as much as any1.

His departure could be one of our biggest issues this year.

Good to see some changes in our management. Technical restructure is proving not to be such a great success. It seems we need even further changes and this seems to be a good start.

I mean O'Driscoll, but Murray as well.

Yeah: Gillan, McCullough, Barnett and Harlow. All important engineers who worked on a circuit rather than in factory.

Not that it will ever happen but the one guy that knows how to fix this mess is Flav. He knows who he needs to put in which position and let them get on with their job.

I've been sleeping on season but besides the mysterious departure of Gillan, why caused the others?

McCullough was reportedly in conflict with Toto, some German media reported it. About others, I have no clue. Harlow has left later, when Toto was already out.

Just a single item on Williams long list of restructuring and personnel changes. Feels like they've been at it for the last decade.

O'Driscoll will probably stay for a few years until the next reshuffle comes about. Nice to have him here until that inevitably happens.

Williams' core is SFW; everything else changes. I don't think that's a good thing nowadays. SFW is a legend, but this team has to stand up by itself, without SFW having to be involved in everything.

Once again.. Mark Gillan leave because of his family.

Was the development work in any way disrupted when Mark Gillan left?

Mike Coughlan: No, because Mark was operations. Mark struggled with the work toll that is very difficult now in Formula One with so many back-to-back aways. But Mark had no influence on development direction, that's done by Jason [Somerville] and his team.

Mike Coughlan: We've come here to concentrate on performance

Spending more time with the family is code for "we've agreed to disagree", whereas Burns didn't even get that yesterday which meant he got walked out by security with boxes in hand. It is a strange answer by MC, what he said is technically true since Mark did not work in design but when you have correlation problems then obviously it has something to do with the guys at the track, or not at the track anymore as the case here. If Mark was not missed why was he there in the first place? Also the first question is interesting, they knew the struggle from the beginning.....

JPM168/Vancha - still too many questions regarding the politics within the team.

Unfortunately, it has destroyed our season & whilst we lauded Coughlan last year, he is to be looked to for criticism & maybe even the departures this year.
