Team Summary:
The opening Friday practice would commence with a flood of drivers coming
out with the medium tyre being the main one being used. The Williams drivers
would be amongst the last to come out as the times started to come very quickly and
it would be Verstappen fastest with a 1m:17.991 followed by Hamilton and
Sainz. Alonso would be the last car to come out as more times would be set
with Verstappen now quickest with a time of 1m:15.799 followed by Perez,
Leclerc, Sainz, Alonso, Bottas, Norris, Stroll, Ricciardo, and Vettel tenth.
Alonso and Leclerc had used the soft tyre on their first runs. The Williams
drivers were currently 14th and 18th but with further laps they would now be
eighth and 18th.
As the Williams cars pitted they were currently 11th and
18th while at the front we now had Perez quickest from Verstappen, Alonso,
Sainz, Stroll, Leclerc, Vettel, Russell, Tsunoda, and Gasly tenth.
As more drivers started soft tyre runs Perez would remain fastest with a
1m:15.660 followed by Verstappen and now Stroll. More soft tyre runs and we
would now see Sainz quickest with a 1m:15.441 followed by Perez and Leclerc.
Verstappen was now fourth followed by Stroll and Vettel. The Williams
drivers were currently 10th and 17th. But Verstappen would move back to the
top of the times with a 1m:15.158 as the order again changed with Sainz now
second followed by Perez, Leclerc, Russell, Stroll, Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel
and Ricciardo tenth. The Williams drivers were currently 13th and 19th with
sixteen minutes remaining.
Alonso would improve to be third ahead of Perez as we had more drivers
return on the medium tyre as the session drew to a close. Both Williams
drivers were on longer runs on the medium tyre as the session came to a
close. The order would remain Verstappen quickest from Sainz, Alonso, Perez,
Leclerc, Russell, Stroll, Hamilton, Vettel, and Ricciardo remaining in tenth.
The Williams drivers would finish the session in 13th and 19th in what was
an encouraging session for the team with the FW44 showing some pace, even if
it was only with one of the teams drivers in this session.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be the first Williams driver out for the practice session using the medium
tyre and he would set a 1m:21.948 to be 16th. But he would improve with a
1m:18.610 to be seventh then dropping to ninth. This would become 13th but with a
1m:17.687 would see Alex improve to be 11th. Alex would complain that
his seat was hot on the left side. He would continue to improve with a
1m:17.144 to now be eighth as he pitted after a ten lap run. In the pits he
would drop to 11th. Upon his return he would use the soft tyre and he would
set a 1m:16.308 to be seventh dropping to eighth. He would drop to 10th as
he pitted after a five lap run. In his pit he would drop to 13th. With
twelve minutes remaining Alex would return on the medium tyre. He would
complete an eleven lap run prior to pitting with the end of the session.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would follow his team-mate out also using the medium tyre. To
finally get to race at his home race was such a huge thing. Nicholas would
set a 1m:23.459 to be 17th. A 1m:20.713 would see him currently 17th. He
would drop to 18th even with a time of 1m:19.098. A 1m:18.543 would now see
Nicholas 17th. Nicholas would pit after a ten lap run and in the pits he
would drop to be 18th. Nicholas would return using the soft tyre and would
set 1 m:17.241 to now be 14th. This would become 17th as he continued to lap
on the soft tyre but would pit after seven laps. In the pits he would drop
to 19th splitting both Haas cars. Nicholas would return for a further run on
the medium tyre and would complete thirteen laps prior to pitting with the
end of the session. |
