Team Summary:
The second Friday practice session for the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix would
commence with both Williams out very early both on the medium tyre. They
would be joined by a large number of drivers all on the medium except the
Ferrari's who were on the hard tyre. The times would come quickly and we
would see Leclerc quickest with a 1m:15.762 followed by Magnussen and
Perez. Verstappen would go quickest with a 1m:14.915 from Norris and
Leclerc. Sainz would go quickest on the hard tyre but Perez would go
quickest with a 1m:14.001 with Gasly now second. But this would quickly
change with Verstappen second from Norris, Russell, Hamilton, an Gasly
sixth.
Leclerc was now third followed by Sainz, Norris, Russell, Hamilton and Gasly
eighth. But the session would be Red Flagged when Ricciardo would crash
heavily in the swimming pool section of the track. the front suspension of
the McLaren was very badly damaged. With thirty six minutes remaining the
session would restart with the soft tyre now been used widely. Both Williams
cars were out on the soft tyre. On the soft Alonso would go quickest but
Perez would move ahead with a 1m:13.324. Verstappen was second followed by
Russell. But it would change as Leclerc set a 1m:13.125 to be quickest from
the Red Bulls. But Verstappen would go quickest with am 1:13.103 but Leclerc
would go ahead with a 1m:12.764 now followed by Sainz and Verstappen with the
Williams drivers currently 12th and 19th.
Norris was now fourth followed by Perez, Russell, Alonso, Vettel, Magnussen,
and Hamilton tenth. Leclerc had improved with a time of 1m:12.656 from Perez
and Sainz. Sainz would move up to second making it a Ferrari 1-2. With
fifteen minutes remaining the Alfa Romeos were now 13th and 15th with a
Williams splitting them. The other Williams was now 19th as drivers started
on their longer runs. Barring two cars the rest of the field were running on
a mix of medium and soft tyres as the final five minutes started. The order
was Leclerc from Sainz, Perez, Verstappen, Norris, Russell, Gasly, Alonso,
Vettel and Tsunoda tenth.
The Williams cars were 14th and 19th as the
session drew to a close and with the end they would finish in these
positions. The two Williams drivers were separated by 1.7s after their soft
tyre runs still indicating that Nicholas was struggling with his car while
Alex was able to get the best out of what is still a difficult car. How much
this is affecting Nicholas's confidence is hard to tell but it must be
playing its part.
Alex Albon:
Alex would return for the second Friday practice running on the medium tyre.
Alex would set a 1m:18.066 to be fifth dropping to sixth then 11th. But a
1m:16.408 would see him fourth but would drop to eighth as other times came
in. He would improve with a 1m:16.087 to currently be 11th. He would drop to
be 12th having completed seven laps so far. Alex would pit with a Red Flag
having completed nine laps on the medium and was currently 12th. Alex would
return on the soft tyre with the restart. A 1m:14.775 would see Alex 11th
but he would improve with a 1m:14.521 to be 10th. He would drop to 12th
despite setting a 1m:14.486 as he pitted after a seven lap run. In his pit he
would drop to 14th. He would return for a further run on the soft tyre with
fifteen minutes remaining. He would complete a long run of eleven laps on
the soft tyre as the session ended. he would pit returning on the medium in
order to complete his practice start on the grid.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would follow his team-mate out also using the medium tyre. Nicholas
would find himself going wide to get out of the way setting a slow 1m:42.771
to be slowest. A 1m:24.719 would see Nicholas 15th. A 1m:18.359 would see
Nicholas 14th dropping to 15th. He would improve with a 1m:17.896 but was
way down the order in 17th and slowest. A 1m:17.296 would see him 16th as he
pitted with a Red Flag having completed nine laps on the medium tyre. With
the restart Nicholas was out on the soft tyre. A 1m:16.276 would see
Nicholas drop to 18th as other times came in. Currently 19th Nicholas would
put after a ten lap run on the soft tyre. He would return on used medium
tyres with just under fifteen minutes remaining. He would pit after an eight
lap run switching to used soft tyres returning to complete his practice
start as the session ended. |
