Team Summary:
After an encouraging Saturday practice where we had a Williams in the top
ten qualifying had the opportunity to achieve a good session. After his
crash earlier in the day Ocon would not be taking part. the opening eighteen
minute period would commence and there would be a rush of drivers coming out
with everyone on the soft tyre. Both Williams cars were running as Magnussen
set a 1m:33.148 but this was quickly passed as we had Sainz set a 1m:30.858
followed by Ricciardo and Leclerc. The Williams cars were currently 10th and
11th as Verstappen went fastest with a 1m:30.235 followed now by Perez and
Russell. The Williams cars were ow 12th and 13th.
At the front it was still Verstappen fastest but now ahead of Ricciardo and
Norris. But it would quickly change as Leclerc went quickest with a
1m:29.474 with Verstappen second and Sainz third. The Williams pair were now
18th and 19th and slowest but would return for a second runs but their times
would not be good enough and both would not make the cut finishing in 18th
and 19th. The end of the period would see Leclerc quickest with a 1m:29.474
followed by Verstappen, Perez, Sainz, Hamilton, Alonso, Stroll, Tsunoda,
Russell and Ricciardo tenth.
The second period would see Leclerc quickest from Verstappen, Norris, Perez,
Sainz, Bottas, Hamilton, Stroll, Tsunoda and Gasly. There were quite a few
big names that would not make the cut including Russell, Alonso, and
Ricciardo. The final period would see it a Ferrari 1-2 with Leclerc leading
Sainz. Verstappen was third followed by Perez, Bottas, Hamilton, Gasly,
Norris, Tsunoda, and Stroll tenth. The Williams Racing team would probably
come away from qualifying with a feeling of disappointment as Alex did seem
to have pace that was at least good enough to see him getting out from Q1
but this was not to be while Nicholas has just had a weekend that has not
had many positives. At least he was able to close the gap in the times to
his team-mate. |

Alex Albon:
Alex would come out for his first run on the soft tyre. Alex would set a
1m:32.495 to be briefly quickest but he would drop down the order. A
1m:32.092 was not even to see Alex move forward now 13th. This would ebcome
17th and he was now behind Nicholas. After a four lap run Alex would pit but
he would return for another new soft tyre run. Alex would improve and would
set a 1m:31.266 to be 14th. But he would drop to 17th but now ahead of his
team-mate. he would finish the period in 18th and out of qualifying.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would follow out his team-mate also using the soft tyre. Nicholas
would set a 1m:32.824 to currently be ninth just behind his team-mate. He
would seta 1m:32.085 that would see him move ahead of his teammate but was
only good enough for 16th. This would become 18th as he pitted briefly
coming back out for another soft tyre run. Nicholas would set a 1m:31.647 to
be 19th and slowest not making it out of Q1. |
