Team Summary:
With the start of the Friday practice both Williams Racing cars would
complete single lap install laps. The first times would be set with Norris
setting a 1m:36.584 to be ahead of Ricciardo, Perez, Verstappen, Gasly, and
Hamilton sixth. But the session would be Red Flagged when the Alpine of Ocon
was to lsoe part of his bodywork seeing debris across the track. Both
McLaren's were on the soft tyre and both Mercedes on the medium. The session
would be restarted as Verstappen went fastest with a 1m:34.783 with the
Williams drivers 13th and 18th. Alonso was second from Perez, Sainz,
Leclerc, Hamilton, Norris, Russell, Ricciardo, and Tsunoda tenth.
The Williams
drivers were now 14th and 17th with both back in their pits. The cars from
tenth to 19th were all using the hard tyre while those above there was a mix
of soft and medium tyres. Verstappen was on the medium. Perez was now second
also on the medium with Alonso third followed by Ocon. Both Alpine's were on
the soft tyre. The Ferrari's were in seventh and ninth both on the hard
tyre. On the soft tyre Russell would go quickest with a 1m:34.629 using the
soft tyre. With more soft tyre runs Gasly went fastest with a 1m:34.193 with
the Williams drivers now 11th and 19th.
Leclerc was now second followed by Sainz, Russell, Verstappen, Stroll,
Tsunoda, Perez, Alonso and Ocon tenth. With further laps the Williams pair
were 12th and 14th. But they would drop to 13th and 15th as the session drew
to a close. Gasly would remain quickest from Leclerc, Sainz, Russell,
Verstappen, Stroll, Hamilton, Alonso, Tsunoda, and Perez tenth. The cars
would be allowed to complete practice starts. With still so many unknowns
coming off the session it was encouraging to see Nicholas 1.4s off the
quickest soft tyre time which was not a huge margin. But yet to set some
cars use the soft tyre. FP2 will give us more of a feeling.
Alex Albon:
Alex would follow his team mate using the same tyre for also a single lap.
Alex would join Nicholas back out also using the hard tyre. He would set a
1m:38.920 to be down in 18th. A 1m:38.580 would see him 16th but he would
drop to 18th pitting after a five lap run. He would also return for a soft
tyre run. Alex would fail to improve and after three laps would pit briefly.
Alex was pushing and would run wide ruining his lap. But he would finally
set a 1m:36.050 to be 13th. He would drop to 15th with the end of the
session.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas was first out for Williams on the hard tyre for an installation
lap. With the session restart Nicholas would return still on the hard tyre.
He would set a 1,m:38.461 to be 12th, dropping to 13th. He would pit after a
five lap run. With twenty minutes remaining Nicholas would return on the
soft tyre. A 1m:37.783 would see him 15th dropping to 16th. But a 1m:35.644
would see him move up to seventh. He would drop to 11th having pitted
briefly. He would pit again currently 12th. With the end of the session he
would finish in 13th. |
