Team Summary:
The qualifying session for the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix would commence with
Tsunoda and both Haas cars out first on the soft tyre. He would be joined by
Kubica and the first of the Williams. A 1m:11.947 from Tsunoda with
Schumacher second. But the Williams would go quicker with Kubica third.
Barring just a few cars most of the field would come out all on the soft
tyre except the Mercedes who were on the medium. Verstappen would set a
1m:10.036 to be quickest with the Williams cars currently sixth and seventh.
Hamilton was now second on the medium tyre followed by Gasly, Leclerc,
Bottas, Perez, Giovinazzi, Norris, Stroll and a Williams tenth. The second
Williams was 12th while Alonso would move into sixth and Ocon eighth.
After their first runs the Williams were 12th and 16th as we had Gasly
fourth followed by Leclerc. Perez was now seventh with six minutes remaining
in the session. A Williams would move up to ninth as the second came out for
a second run. The top ten was Verstappen, Hamilton, Bottas, Gasly, Leclerc,
Alonso, Perez, Sainz, and Nicholas. But the second Williams would move into
fifth behind Gasly. But at the top it would change as Leclerc went quickest
with a 1m:09.829 from Sainz, Verstappen, Giovinazzi, Hamilton, Bottas,
Nicholas, Hamilton, Ocon, Bottas, Ricciardo, and Gasly. The second Williams
was 11th. But a Williams would move into fifth. So both Williams were both
in the second period, a fantastic result.
The start of the second period we would have a Williams out first. It would
be Verstappen with a 1m:09.071 to be quickest from a Williams then Norris.
But then Hamilton and Bottas were second and third with the Williams fifth
and seventh. Giovinazzi was in an impressive fourth as the rest of the
fifteen cars took to the track. Both Williams had pitted. We would see
Leclerc second followed by Gasly who was ahead of both Mercedes. Ricciardo
was now sixth followed by Sainz, Ocon, Alonso and Giovinazzi now tenth. Both
Williams were now back out for their second runs. But we would see a
Williams spin off the track and into the gravel seeing a Red Flag but the
Williams would be able to return to the pits but would not be able to return
ending George's session..
The track would have to be swept at the location where the Williams had gone
off and into the gravel then bringing it back onto the track. The period
would restart with a Williams out first. He would be joined by a flow of
drivers coming out all trying to keep a gap to the car in front. But the
session would again be Red Flagged as the second Williams would crash and it
was declared that the period was not to be restarted. This would see both
Williams cars out on qualifying. With the restart of the final period the
drivers would complete their runs and it would be Verstappen quickest with a
1m:08.885 followed by Hamilton, Bottas, Gasly, Leclerc, Sainz, Giovinazzi,
Ocon, Alonso and Ricciardo tenth. Despite the disappointment of both
Williams cars crashing out the performance from both drivers in the session
was certainly encouraging. George would start Sundays race from 11th and
Nicholas 14th with both having the choice of tyre for the race. So the
possibility of points in the race was a real possibility. |
