Emilia Romagna GP: Positive qualifying for Williams Racing

Team Summary:
After just a single Saturday practice session the Williams Racing Team had some issues in their session, in particular Nicholas Latifi had a Brake by Wire issue which limited his track time. Now it was qualifying for the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Both Williams cars were out early with both on the soft tyre in the opening eighteen minute period. A 1m:17.196 from Magnussen on the soft tyre to be quickest as the times came quickly. Kvyat was fastest with a m1;15.412 from Gasly and Leclerc. Verstappen was now second but as Hamilton went fastest with a 1m:15.144. After their first flying laps the Williams drivers were currently in 11th and 17th. Verstappen would move past Hamilton but a 1m:14.574 from Hamilton would again see him quickest with Bottas now second. But Bottas' time was deleted seeing him 19th. Leclerc was now in third from Gasly, Norris, Kvyat, Perez, Sainz, Ocon and Vettel in tenth.

Bottas was now 20th but out for a second run on the soft tyre. Both Williams drivers were on their second runs currently in 14th and 18th. Bottas was now in second after his run as we had the Williams drivers now in 17th and 18th. Albon was now in seventh as the session drew to a close. At the front Bottas was now quickest with a 1m:14.221 as Hamilton's fastest time had been deleted. For Williams one car would finish in 19th and was out of qualifying while the second was in 14th and had made it into Q2. So in Q1 Bottas was quickest from Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, Gasly, Norris, Ocon, Albon, Perez, and Kvyat in tenth.

The second period would commence with both Ferrari's out on the medium tyre. They would be joined by both Mercedes and Red Bull cars. Vettel would set a 1m:16.302 only to see Kvyat on the soft tyre set a 1m:15.247. Bottas would go quickest from Hamilton, Gasly, Ricciardo, Norris, Kvyat, Ocon, Sainz, Albon, and Stroll tenth. The remaining Williams was now in 13th. Verstappen was back in his garage with an engine issue with Verstappen currently 15th. Albon who was in 11th would spin forcing him to pit. Drivers would start to return for their second runs with both Ferrari's back out on the soft tyre. Verstappen was able to return for his final run as the remaining Williams was out on the track.

Gasly was now in third ahead of Leclerc who was now fourth. For Williams they would see their car in 11th after a quick final run but they would drop to 14th. The top ten would be Bottas, Hamilton, Gasly, Albon, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Leclerc, Kvyat, Sainz and Norris in tenth. Stroll would have his last time deleted seeing the Williams in 13th. This would see the Williams drivers finish qualifying in 13th and 19th. The final period after the first runs would see Hamilton fastest with a 1m:13.781 followed by Bottas, Verstappen, Gasly, Leclerc, Norris, Kvyat, Ricciardo, Sainz and Albon who had his time deleted. The second runs would see Bottas go quickest with a 1m:13.609 followed by Hamilton, Verstappen, Gasly, Ricciardo, Albon, Leclerc, Kvyat, Norris and Sainz. So in another repeat of the previous race the Williams Racing Team would see one of their drivers make into the second period finishing the session in 13th and 19th. This was very much a repeat of the Portuguese qualifying. Now it is a question as to whether the team can produce a positive race on Sunday.

George Russell:
George would follow his team-mate out also on the soft tyre. George would set a 1m:16.715 to go fastest if only briefly. He would drop to 11th but a 1m:16.213 would see him eighth dropping back to 11th. Back in his pit George was now 13th and with five minutes remaining he would return for a second run on the soft tyre. He was currently 17th but his last lap was a 1m:15.760 to move up to 11th dropping to 14th. This would mean he was again in Q2. He would start Q2 running on the soft tyre. George would set a 1m:15.552 to be third dropping to sixth. He would then drop to seventh ahead of both Ferrari's. George would pit and with three minutes remaining he would return for a second soft tyre run. George was able to set a 1m:15,323 after been fastest in the first sector finishing in 11th. He would drop to 14th but this would become 13th. George would say "Great job guys ... that was a great lap guys. We need more tracks like this in F1. Awesome"

Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be first out in the opening period of qualifying running on the soft tyre. Nicholas would set a 1m:17.830 for his first timed lap. Nicholas would drop to 13th as he would set a 1m:17.012 to currently be 16th. Nicholas would set a 1m:16.399 but remained 16th. But with deleted times Nicholas would be in 15th. This would become 16th as he returned form a pit stop for a second run. he would improve with a 1m:15.987 to be 17th dropping to be 18th. Nicholas would fail to improve remaining down in 19th and out of qulaifying.
