Team Summary:
After what seemed like a variety of handling issues with the FW43 the
Williams Racing Team would get the second Friday practice session underway.
In what was a very hot day Ricciardo would be first out running on the hard
tyre. He would be joined by Kvyat and both Haas cars. The medium and hard
tyres were the ones been used in these early stages of the session. A
1m:30.518 from Ricciardo. Both Ferrari's were also out with Vettel making
his first appearance after not run in FP1. Grosjean was now quickest but
Giovinazzi would move ahead with a 1m:30.046. Leclerc on the medium was now
quickest with a 1m:28.773 followed by Gasly and Raikkonen. Stroll was fourth
followed by Ricciardo and Giovinazzi. Giovinazzi was now second as Leclerc
would spin his Ferrari at Turn three. Both Williams drivers were now running
again on a split tyre evaluations running both the medium and the hard.
Both Red Bull cars were running with Verstappen went fastest with a
1m:28.390 running on the medium. The Williams pair were now 16th and 17th.
Albon would move ahead of Verstappen but Bottas would go quickest with a
1m:28.039. Hamilton was sixth on the hard. Both Williams drivers would pit
after short runs. Verstappen was now third followed by Leclerc, Giovinazzi,
Hamilton, Stroll, Gasly, Hulkenberg, and Raikkonen tenth. Hamilton would
improve to be third. With thirty minutes completed the top ten was Bottas,
Albon, Hamilton, Verstappen, Leclerc, Giovinazzi, Stroll, Gasly, Hulkenberg
and Ricciardo. The Williams drivers remained in their pits currently 18th
and 19th. The quickest time was now a 1m:27.731.
After a small quite period drivers would start to return and Albon on the
soft tyre would set a 1m:27.364 to be quickest. There were quite a few soft
tyre runs now taking place. Stroll was now quickest with a 1m:27.274.
Leclerc was now third followed by Bottas. The session would be red flagged
when Albon was to crash on the exit of Stowe. Prior to this the Williams
driver were 13th and 19th. The session would restart with thirty five
minutes remaining. Both Mercedes were on soft tyre runs but would remain in
third and fifth. As the session drew to a close both Williams drivers would
return to their hard and medium tyres runs. With the session coming to an
end the Williams drivers would complete their longer runs on the hard and
medium tyres. The top ten would end up been Stroll from Albon, Bottas,
Leclerc, Hamilton, Sainz, Hulkenberg Gasly, Ricciardo and Raikkonen tenth.
As for the fortunes of the Williams team this Friday as a whole did not show
the positive results that had been seen in the first three races. But have
they changed their approach to focus on their race pace.
George Russell:
With fifteen minutes completed George was now running this time on the hard
tyre. George would set a 1m:30.544 to be 14th just ahead of Nicholas. He
would drop to 18th pitting after a four lap run. George while on his radio
had him saying he would have to abort and that he wanted to pit. It was
unclear the reason why he made this comment. George would also come out for
soft tyre run. George would set a 1m:28.771 to be 10th. This would become
13th as others went quicker. As further runs were completed George would drop
to 17th. With twenty minutes remaining George would return running on the
hard tyre. He would complain of vibration from the right front. But he would
continue to lap completing a 15 lap run. George would return to complete a
practice start on the grid.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would run first for Williams coming out on the medium tyre. He
would set a 1m:30.799 to currently be 12th. He would drop to 19th as he
would pit after a six lap run. Fifty five minutes remaining and Nicholas was
back out on the soft tyre. He would set a 1m:29.958 to be 18th dropping to
19th. Nicholas was back out for a second soft tyre run. He would not improve
on his time in this run. Nicholas would drop to 20th. He would pit changing
to the medium tyre. Right at the end of the session Nicholas would spin off
taking to the grass at Stowe but he was able to continue pitting after a 14
lap run on the mediums. Nicholas would also complete a practice start on the
grid. |
