The Saturday practice for the 2019 German Grand Prix would see Ricciardo set
the first time with a 1m:15.030 on the soft tyre but Sainz would go quicker
with a 1m:14.152 but he was on the medium. Bottas was third on the soft tyre
but more drivers set times with Ricciardo and Hulkenberg second and third
only to see Bottas go second. But Hamilton would move to the top of the
times with a 1m:13.767 set on the soft tyre. But Ferrari would respond with
Leclerc going fastest with a time of 1m:13.117 followed by Vettel and
Hulkenberg, all on the soft tyre. Leclerc would set an improved 1m:12.736
with Vettel still second and Hamilton now third.
Albon would move up to fourth followed by Hulkenberg, Raikkonen, Bottas,
Stroll, Gasly, and Sainz. After their first runs the Williams drivers were
slowest with George ahead of Robert. Robert was able to close the gap
between himself and his team-mate with the pair just 0.1 apart. Verstappen
was able to move into third while Hamilton in fourth had completed a longer
run on the soft tyre. Raikkonen was fifth followed by Albon, Perez,
Hulkenberg, Norris, and Magnussen tenth. Leclerc was even quicker with a
1m:12.387 and Vettel a 1m:12.844. But Verstappen would go second and Bottas
improved to be fourth and Hamilton was now sixth. Hamilton would improve but
would have his lap time deleted due to track limits.
Hamilton was now ninth while Magnussen moved up to be fifth. Hamilton would
improve to be sixth followed by Sainz, Gasly, Raikkonen and Grosjean tenth.
Bottas was now fourth as the session drew to a close. Wityh the end of the
session it would be Leclerc from Verstappen, Vettel, Bottas, Magnussen,
Hamilton, Sainz, Gasly, Raikkonen, and Grosjean tenth. For Williams it was a
difficult session with George Russell only having one run and even Robert
Kubica would was able to complete a second run but would finish 1.7s off the
next car in front. The issues for the Williams team seem to continue despite
the efforts from all at the Williams team.
Robert would be forced to change his chassis overnight after the team had
found damage to his original chassis as the team did their Friday night
preparations. This would not see Robert incur any penalty. With the start of
the session Robert would take to the track early running on medium tyres. He
would pit after a single installation lap. With just over forty minutes
remaining Robert would return for a soft tyre run. Robert would set a
1m:16.815 on his first timed lap. After a cool down lap Robert would improve
with a 1m:16.102. But Robert would find time with a 1m:15.948 to close the
gap to his team-mate. Robert would pit after an eleven lap run. With twelve
minutes remaining Robert would return on a new set of soft tyres. Robert
would improve with a 1m:15.540 to move ahead of his team-mate. Robert would
pit after a three lap run ending his session.
George would follow his team-mate out also on the soft tyre. George's car
would also be running the updates that were seen on Friday. George was able
to set a 1m:16.515 to finish ahead of his team-mate. His next timed lap
would be a 1m:15.824 remaining in front of Robert. George would also pit
after an eleven lap run. George's car was now on its stands with the
mechanics hard at work on his car. The issue with his car was floor damage
which would see his session come to an early end.
