For the AT&T Williams team driver Rubens Barrichello it would be an encouraging start with the Brazilian finishing seventh in the opening Friday practice session for the 2010 Brazilian GP. He was backed by by team-mate Nico Hulkenberg who woulsd finish the session in twelfth. For Nico it was his first run at the Interlagos circuit.

 Brazilian GP Friday 1st Practice

The opening Friday practice for the 2010 Brazilian Grand Prix would start under fine and dry conditions. But there was the threat of cloud and rain for the second Friday practice. For the AT&T Williams team Brazil will give the team another opportunity to see if they can move ahead of Force India in the Constructors championship. Bridgestone had brought the medium and super-soft compound tyres for this race. The drivers would start to come out of the pit lane for their installation laps. Rubens would again have another helmet colour design with the colours of the Brazilian flag dominate, as well as using his 300 race driving overalls.

BarrichelloJerome D'Ambrosio was again driving for Virgin in this session as we had both Williams cars out on the track as Buemi would set the first time with a 1m:27.979. The whole field had now come out with both Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello for Williams back in their pits. The only driver still on the track was Sutil but he would also pit leaving the track empty. Glock was first back out practicing a start as he exited the pit lane. Webber would do the same as he left the pits. He was joined by team-mate Vettel. Webber would pit while he also had Hamilton and Petrov take to the track. Vettel would also pit as the Red Bull team continued to collect data. Glock would also pit as Hamilton continued as we had both Glock and Schumacher left the pits. Hamilton had pitted followed by Glock shortly after.

Button was next out also completing a practice start as he started his lap. He would also pit before setting a time. The track was again empty but with an hour and nine minutes remaining Hamilton would return, this time joined by Rosberg. After a series of laps Hamilton would pit while Button would return to the track. Buemi was back out and would set an improved time of 1m:21.025. Button had pitted as Klien and Petrov took to the track. Klien was running in HRT for this weekend. With an hour remaining D'Ambrosio was next out with Buemi pitting. Petrov would set a new quickest time with a 1m:20.059. Alguersuari was next out as Klien set a 1m:21.357 to be third. Petrov would set a 1m:17.098 as Rubens got ready to go out. Rubens would get into his car as Petrov set a 1m:15.574 and Klien improved with a 1m:18.680 to be second. Senna would head out as Alguersuari set a 1m:17.781 to be second but Klien would move ahead with a 1m:17.346.

Petrov would improve with a 1m:15.063 to remain fastest. D'Ambrosio would improve with a 1m:19.388 as Alguersuari set a 1m:16.179 to be second. Now Petrov was in the 1m:14's with a 1m:14.659. Senna was now fifth as we had the first of the Williams cars come out, Nico. Kobayashi was also out on the track. Nico would set a 1m:17.255 to be in fourth. Petrov had pitted having set a 1m:14.370. Alguersuari was second from Klien, Nico, Kobayashi, and D'Ambrosio. Klien would pit as Nico would go fastest in the first sector. As more drivers set times Heidfeld would move up to second from Nico, 1m:15.067, Alguersuari, Kobayashi. Massa was now sixth from Trulli and Klien. Rubens had also come out and was now fastest with a 1m:14.152. Schumacher was up to third, 1m:14.576.Heidfeld was now fourth and Nico fifth, 1m:15.067.

Heidfeld would improve with a 1m:14.340 to be second. But it would be Schumacher who would go fastest with a 1m:13.643. Rubens was now again fastest with a 1m:13.546. Both McLaren drivers would still out of their cars while Schumacher had pitted. Webber was now in third, 1m:14.113, followed by Heidfeld, Kubica, Petrov, Nico, Kobayashi, Massa, and Sutil. Nico would pit while at the front Kubica would go fastest with a 1m:13.462. Rubens would also pit while Webber would improve with a 1m:13.583 but remained third. Alonso was now up to seventh, 1m:14.246, followed by Sutil and Petrov. Massa was now tenth and Nico eleventh.

It would now be Webber's time to go fastest with a 1m:13.168 as we now had Hamilton and Vettel come out. Team-mate Webber had pitted as Rosberg move up to fifth, 1m:13.742. Schumacher was fourth, 1m:13.643. Vettel was on a longer nine lap run and would set a 1m:14.790 to be fourteenth but his next lap would set him move up to sixth, 1m:13.996. Hamilton was now second with a 1m:13.399, improving from fourteenth. Rubens was now fifth and Nico fourteenth. Vettel was now third, 1m:13.441. Petrov and Nico were back out followed by Rubens. Hamilton would go fastest with a 1m:13.138 but he would be passed by Vettel with a 1m:12.946. Button has come out and was up to eighth, 1m:14.001. With just under thirty minutes remaining Hamilton would edge ahead of Vettel with a 1m:12.845 but he was quickly beaten by Vettel. Vettel's time was a 1m:12.351 to be ahead by 0.494 seconds.

Hamilton would pit while both Webber and Kubica returned to the track. Button was now fourth, 1m:13.267, while Rubens was now sixth. Nico had improved to be eleventh, 1m:14.155, and had pitted. Vettel had found some extra time setting a 1m:12.328. Button had pitted followed by Vettel. Alguersuari would spin at Turn one but he was able to continue. Rubens had pitted while we had Massa down in fifteenth. Team-mate Alonso was in twelfth 1.9 seconds off Vettel's pace. Schumacher and Rosberg were in seventh and eighth. Webber had improved his time with a 1m:12.995 but remained third. Kubica was fifth while Webber was on an improved lap moving up to second with a 1m:12.810. Kubica would pit leaving only a handful of cars on the track. Webber had also pitted while Nico would return to the track with fifteen minutes remaining. Alonso and Massa continued out on the track but Massa would pit.

Nico was back out along with Hamilton. Button would join Hamilton followed by Petrov. Rubens was sitting patiently in his car with ten minutes left in the session. Vettel was back out now along with Rubens and Kobayashi. They were joined by more drivers all looking to complete their final runs. Rubens and Nico were in seventh and eleventh. The track was now very busy but Petrov would again get it wrong crashing his car into the barrier after spinning wildly across the tarmac run-off area. His car was craned away while Petrov stood there wondering why he got it wrong. Nico had pitted but was quickly back out. Klien was now the only driver in his pit. Webber was down to a 1m:12.810 to be 0.482 behind Vettel.

Rubens was still seventh with a 1m:13.546. Third placed Hamilton had pitted as the session came to a close. Sutil would improve to be ninth with a 1m:13.918 while the big news was Alonso pulling off the track coming to a stop. Kobayashi would also stop after having a big spin at Ferradura with a problem with his left rear tyre. Vettel would pit while the other drivers would all come back to the grid to complete their practice starts. So at the end of the session Vettel was still fastest from Webber, Hamilton, Button, Rosberg, Rubens, Schumacher, Sutil, Heidfeld, Kobayashi and Nico in twelfth. An encouraging performance from Rubens as the Williams team got down to looking at the performance data in readiness for the second Friday session.

Klien 1:16.839 18 laps
Senna 1:17.360 29 laps

Looks like Brawn dodged a bullet last year. If they hasn't gone with Rubens, they would have lost the Constructors title for sure.

Yep, Klien has come in from the cold and done this twice now this year in an awful car against a team-mate who has driven it practically all year. He's clearly the quickest driver HRT have on their rather congested books - pity he can't hold a drive down on that point alone.
