It would be another competitive qualifying from both AT&T Williams drivers with Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg starting from eighth and tenth on the grid for Sunday's race. Both Rubens and Nico were able to comfortably make it into the final period of qualifying, showing that their practice performances were not just lucky. The team now has a very good chance to add to their points tally.

 German GP Qualifying

The lead-up to qualifying for the 2010 German Grand Prix would see the team having to cope with continued wet weather. Saturday would see rain in the morning but at least the qualifying session would commence in the dry but with clouds over the circuit. AT&T Williams drivers Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg would finish the final practice in eighth and tenth so it was looking promising for both cars to make it into the final period. Nico was advised by the team that it should be dry throughout qualifying.

BarrichelloThe opening twenty minute would commence with Di Grassi out first. He was joined by Alonso and Petrov. Both Mercedes cars would come out along with both Force India cars, Massa, and Hamilton. Nico would also take to the track joined shortly after by Rubens. Hamilton was now fourth, 1m:14.488, while Rubens had dropped to seventh. Nico was just in the top ten while Petrov moved up to eleventh. As the final minute counted down Schumacher would move up to ninth seeing Nico drop to twelfth. Rosberg would take this spot from Schumacher as the period came to an end. With the end of the period those not making into through were Schumacher, Kobayashi, Petrov, Sutil, De la Rosa, Alguersuari, and Buemi. The top ten was Alonso from Vettel, Webber, Massa, Hamilton, Rubens, Button, Kubica, Nico, and Rosberg in tenth.

The final ten minute would see Webber straight out followed by Button, Hamilton and Massa. Rosberg and Rubens would also come out while Nico remained in his pit. Vettel was one of the last out as Webber set a time of 1m:14.347 to go fastest with Hamilton second from Massa, Button , and Rosberg. Only the two Williams cars were out on the track with just under four minutes remaining. The Williams team had decided to give Nico just one lap during the period. Nico would only manage a time that would see him in ninth, 1m:15.765, while the others were returning to the track.

Only Kubica was still in his pit but he would come out as Nico moved up to eighth, 1m:15.339. Massa was in fourth from Webber, Button, Hamilton, Kubica, Rubens, Rosberg, and Nico in tenth. Webber's final lap was ruined by a mistake and he backed off returning to his pit. A great effort from both Williams drivers with the pair again in the top ten this time after qualifying.

In an interview after the session Rubens would comment saying that he was quite happy with his car and the improvements that the Williams team were bringing to the car. He added that the Hockenheimring circuit is one that aerodynamically you have to have a good car. But he found that as the sun came out he picked up some understeer which affected his times. He was asked if he could see more improvements coming from the car and Rubens added that he was quite happy with the way things were going.
