Williams Jerez Test 10:02:2010 Day One

AT&T Williams driver Nico Hulkenberg commenced the team's four day test at the Jerez circuit. Nico will complete the first two days wile Rubens Barrichello will take over for the third and fourth.

The opening day would be run under mainly wet conditions. Nico and the team worked through a programme of set-up work and systems checks, while also carrying out some race starts practice.

Nico closed the session in third with a 1m:22.243 having completed 118 laps, the highest number of any driver. Nico was also one of the fastest drivers in the wet, setting a 1m25.950s in the penultimate hour before the rain got worse.

"After one run in the morning on old dry tyres, the remainder of the day was wet. We completed our programme in terms of mileage and spent the day evaluating set-up on the intermediate and full wet tyres. We also practiced race starts and carried out systems checks. Within those checks, Nico forced sensor shutdowns onboard the car in order to ensure it responds correctly in the event that this is ever required during a race. We finished the day without having experienced any mechanical problems."

Nico Hulkenberg:
"We managed just one short stint with the dry tyres before having to change onto intermediates and then wets, but we were still able to test several things we had planned and everything worked well. I felt comfortable in the rain, and it was a positive testing day for us."
