AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg would finish in fourth after the running of the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix. This would be another points scoring finish for the Williams driver but for team-mate Kazuki Nakajima it would be another frustrating race finishing just outside the points in ninth. Nico would move up to fifth in the Drivers Championship. A great result for everyone at the Williams team.

 Hungarian GP Race Review

As Formula came to grips with Massa's accident and his injuries the teams would prepare for the seventy lap Hungarian Grand Prix. The Ferrari mechanics had a message of best wishes for Felipe Massa on their pit board. Thankfully the medical reports were encouraging in regard to Massa's condition. For the AT&T Williams team Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima would start from fifth and ninth on the grid, with both drivers quite well fuelled. With light cloud over the circuit it was cooler which could help some teams.

RosbergWith Alonso on pole the grid would move away on their parade lap. The big concern for the drivers at the front was the KERS cars and how they would make use of this at the start. Newcomer Jaime Alguersuari would make his race debut from the rear of the grid. Nico would make the start with the super soft tyres, joining most of the front runners in making this choice. Vettel was one of the drivers to select the harder tyre for his first stint. Alonso would take up his place and the grid would form up behind hi. The start would see Alonso leading from Hamilton but Webber would get past Hamilton. Raikkonen was up to fourth while Vettel had dropped to seventh. Nico was running in fifth and Kazuki eighth.

Kovalainen was in sixth as Vettel said that he had possible front wing damage after making contact with Raikkonen. Button would pass Kazuki at Turn one. Alonso was leading by 1.8 seconds after lap two from Webber with Hamilton third followed by Raikkonen, Nico, Kovalainen, Vettel, Button, and Kazuki. Alonso was setting quickest laps and on lap three he set a time of 1m:24.436. Nico was right behind Raikkonen as Alonso continued to lead Webber by 2.3 seconds. Sutil would retire in his garage with water temperature issues. Lap four and a 1m:23.529 from Alonso as Nico continued to challenge Raikkonen. Hamilton would pass Webber coming out of Turn one and into Turn two, with the KERS helping the McLaren driver.

NakajimaAlonso was now leading Hamilton by 2.9 seconds followed by Webber, Raikkonen, Nico, Kovalainen, Vettel, Button and Kazuki still in ninth. lap six and Hamilton was fastest with a 1m:23.218. Nico had dropped back from Raikkonen, the gap being 1.1 seconds. Another fastest lap from Hamilton with a 1m:23.207. Alonso was now just 2.1 seconds ahead of Hamilton as Nico continued to drop back from Raikkonen, 1.6 seconds. Nico would set a personal best on lap eight, 1m:23.914, but was slower than Raikkonen. Lap eight and Hamilton was now 1.4 seconds behind Alonso.

Lap nine and Webber was fastest with a 1m:23.190. Nico was now 2.1 seconds behind Raikkonen but he was 4.3 seconds ahead of Raikkonen. Kazuki was just 0.7 seconds behind eighth placed Button. Lap eleven and another personal best from Nico with a 1m:23.705 as he continued in fifth. Raikkonen was under investigation for his part in the incident with Vettel as Alonso would pit on lap thirteen. He would take on another set of super soft's. He would return in ninth while Hamilton took over the lead. Lap thirteen and Hamilton was fastest with a 1m:22.868 as Alonso would loose the front wheel cover from his right front wheel. Shortly after he would lose his right front wheel and he would limp slowly back to the pits. The wheel would stop without hitting anything.

Alonso would pit and take on the harder tyre for his next stint. Hamilton was leading by 3.2 seconds from Webber, Raikkonen, Nico, Kovalainen, Vettel, Button, and Kazuki in eighth. Lap fifteen and Hamilton was quickest with a 1m:22.795. Nico was now 2.6 seconds behind Raikkonen as Hamilton again went fastest with a 1m:22.479 on lap sixteen. Alonso was back again in his pit being pushed into his garage to retire. Lap seventeen and a personal best from Nico with a 1m:23.199 while Kazuki was just 0.5 behind Button. Thirteenth placed Heidfeld would pit on lap nineteen. Lap twenty and both Webber and Raikkonen would pit but Webber was released into the path of Raikkonen, thankfully without making contact with the Ferrari.

RosbergLap twenty one and Hamilton and Nico would pit with both drivers taking on the super soft tyres. Nico would come out in front of Webber but Webber would pass Nico going around him at Turn two. Lap twenty two and Kovalainen and Vettel would pit with Kovalainen pitting from the lead. Kazuki would pit from fourth on lap twenty three, returning with the super soft tyre. Hamilton was again leading from Button, Trulli, Piquet, Raikkonen, and Glock. Piquet would pit from fourth on lap twenty four. Kazuki was down in fifteenth. Trulli was now third from Raikkonen, Glock, Webber, Kovalainen, Nico, Vettel, and Buemi in tenth.

Hamilton was now leading Trulli by 3.0 seconds, followed by Raikkonen, Glock, Webber, Kovalainen, Nico, and Vettel in eighth. After his first stop Kazuki was way down in fifteenth. Vettel would complain about something in his car been broken and would pit on lap twenty eight. Trulli would pit on lap twenty nine while Vettel would return to the track after a check by his mechanics. Trulli would return in eighth behind Barrichello. Fisichella would pit on lap thirty.

Hamilton was still leading from Raikkonen, Glock, Webber, Kovalainen, Nico, Barrichello, and Trulli in eighth. Vettel would pit again to retire in his garage. Nico was 3.3 seconds behind Kovalainen but the next lap he would pull back a few tenths. Kovalainen was right behind Webber as Glock pitted on lap thirty three. He would return in seventh and well in front of Trulli. Lap thirty three and Raikkonen was 7.2 seconds behind Hamilton. Webber was third from Kovalainen, Nico, as Barrichello pitted from seventh on lap thirty four. Nico was now 1.8 seconds behind Kovalainen. Raikkonen was closing in onto Hamilton taking eight tenths off the McLaren on lap thirty five.

NakajimaKazuki was now in tenth while Webber was struggling running on the harder tyre while those around him were on the super soft tyre. Lap thirty seven and Nico was now 1.3 seconds behind Kovalainen. Hamilton was able to open out his lead to 7.1 seconds after lap thirty seven, but the following lap Raikkonen would pull back a few tenths to be 6.8 seconds behind. Kazuki was right behind Piquet while Buemi would spin at Turn two. Kovalainen was still looking to pass Webber while Nico was just 1.3 seconds behind the McLaren. Lap forty two and Nico would close right up onto Kovalainen while the McLaren driver continues to follow third placed Webber.

Lap forty five and Kovalainen would pit taking on the harder tyre for his final stint. Kovalainen would return in sixth. lap forty six and Raikkonen would pit taking on the harder tyre. Nico was pushing setting a personal best on lap forty five. Raikkonen would be slow to get away while Hamilton would pit on lap forty seven. He would return in the lead with Webber second from Nico, Raikkonen, Glock, Kovalainen, Trulli, and Button in eighth. Lap forty seven and Nico was still pushing, 1m:23.080, as he ran behind Webber. Lap forty nine and Nico would pit from third.

Kazuki was down in ninth while Heidfeld would pit from tenth. Nico was on the soft tyre for his final run. Webber would pit the next lap taking on the super soft tyres, returning in fourth ahead of Nico. Nico was now ahead of Kovalainen while at the front Hamilton was leading Raikkonen by 16.2 seconds, with Glock third. Webber was fourth from Nico, Kovalainen, Trulli, and Button. Kazuki was 1.0 seconds behind Button with Kazuki closing in onto the Brawn. Glock was right behind Raikkonen while Nico was half a second off Webber's pace. Nico was 5.0 seconds behind Webber as Glock returned in sixth. Kazuki was just 0.8 seconds behind eighth placed Trulli. It was a fight for eighth with Barrichello right behind Kazuki. Hamilton was leading Raikkonen by 16.2 seconds after lap sixty four. Webber was third followed by Nico, Kovalainen, Glock, Button, and Trulli.

Webber was pushing setting a fastest lap on lap sixty five, 1m:21.931, but with only a handful of laps left he would not be able to close and pass Raikkonen. Nico was 7.4 seconds behind Webber but was 8.4 seconds ahead of Kovalainen. Kazuki was still behind Trulli and not looking like he would pass the Toyota. Lap sixty nine and Webber was 3.9 seconds behind Raikkonen with Nico now 10.3 seconds behind Webber. Kazuki was still right behind Trulli but not able to pass. Hamilton would start his last lap and would cross the line to take victory in the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix. Raikkonen was second from Webber, Nico, Kovalainen, Glock, Button, and Trulli taking the final point. Kazuki would finish in ninth just outside the points.

Another great result from Nico with a fourth place finish. Nico has scored again in what is turning out to be an impressive couple of races prior to the four week break. Unfortunately Kazuki was only able to come home in ninth again failing to score a point. Nico would move up to fifth in the Drivers Championship. A great result for everyone at the Williams team.
