Starting second and third on the grid had Ferrari in good shape for the race and it was even better after the start because Rubens Barrichello moves into second place and Michael Schumacher remains in third place after a slowish start. Barrichello passes Ralf for the lead as Schumacher pushing Montoya into swerving all over the track but Michael is too good for him and past and soon to pass his brother as well.
And that was the worst possible situation for our rivals as they had no answer to the blistering pace of the Ferrari’s who easily pulled away from the Williams and McLaren’s behind and it was a straight race between Michael and Rubens with Barrichello holding his own and very much on the pace today. Schumacher loses a lot of time when he spins as he pushes very hard before his first stop and he loses about 10 seconds to Barrichello and when both drivers pit the order remains the same.
Both Ferrari’s lead the race comfortably and behind they see the demise of Montoya who tangles with Coulthard and both drivers are out of the race and leaving Ferrari miles ahead of the rest. By the time the second pit stops for Ferrari came round Michael had closed right up with Barrichello once more and when they both stop cleanly once more Barrichello remains in the lead and will he be allowed to win this race after the Austrian scandal?
4 laps to go and Ferrari are cruising but Barrichello remains in the lead as the whole paddock and world watch and wait to see if Barrichello is allowed to take this win as deserved, and with the FIA hearing due this week it would be a wise decision for Ferrari to allow this race to end without the pit wall pressing the radio buttons.
Final lap and the Ferrari’s are right with each other as they take the final 3 miles and Rubens is coming home for his second ever grand prix victory and the weekend is a brilliant success for Ferrari, a 1-2 finish with Rubens winning and Michael extending his drivers title lead it was simply perfect for Ferrari in Germany.
