Despite the loss of Red Bull as title sponsor as from next season, Sauber are reportedly on the verge of extending their Ferrari engine deal yet further. At $28 million a year, Sauber have to pay dearly for their speed and are helped in part, by Petronas, who pay to re-badge the engines.
It is crucial for Sauber that the Petronas deal is also extended, and according to a team spokesman, the two parties 'are working on extending the contract as per their original plan,’ the official told Global Motorsport Media. "There are three partners in our engine: Team Sauber Petronas who run the engine; Petronas who buy it from Ferrari; and Ferrari who sell it to Petronas."
