Michael Schumacher has long stated his desire to see out his racing career with Ferrari and that is still the case according to his manager Willi Weber. Speaking to the German SID news agency Weber has said that 2003 will be the time for Michael and Ferrari to begin contract talks about what will happen after 2004. But one thing remains clear and that is that it will be Ferrari or nothing for the 5 times world champion.
"Michael's contract runs until 2004. That's why we want to wait and talk about an eventual extension to the contract with Ferrari in 2003. Michael says that it will only be with Ferrari if he does continue to drive in Formula One after 2004," said Weber.
A report in the Italian media this weekend is not true according to Willi. The article had suggested that Ferrari were already prepared to offer Schumacher 150 million euro’s to put pen to paper on a two year extension of his current contract. But it is to early to begin such talks says the manager although both parties are keen to continue their very successful relationship together.
Despite his denial of such a offer it remains clear that Luca di Montezemolo is already actively trying to tie up key Ferrari members on longer deals. Ross Brawn has recently stated his desire to remain with the team with or without Michael after 2004 and it is expected that Jean Todt and Rory Byrne will feel the same way.
