A race weekend is a demanding time for a driver, but this did not stop Michael Schumacher from taking an interest in what has been happening in Germany and other European countries, because of the bad weather over the past few weeks.

“The pictures I saw made a strong impression. It is really terrible,” said the German. “I am German and so I want to do something for the people who are going through difficult times right now, especially for those who are not in a financial position to deal with the situation. I want to give what I can.”

Michael Schumacher is therefore giving one million Euro to a televised relief fund set up by the German Chancellor Schroeder, called “Hope is the last thing to die,” which is set up to help Germans affected by the flooding. The programme goes out this evening on Germany’s main TV channel, ARD.
