Winning the title in France then winning in Germany along with a welcome family holiday might have dampened the desire of lesser drivers but for Michael Schumacher things remain the same and come Friday morning when F1 roars back into life he will once again be going all out for a great weekend with the Ferrari team.

“I am already thinking about the next race,” said Schumacher. “I cannot deny that luck seems to be with me at the moment.”

The 2002 title is already in the bag for the German maestro but it is with fond memories that he returns to the Hungaroring. This was the venue for his fourth world title when he won here last season and he can still remember the fantastic feeling he got from the crowd. Schumacher will be remembering those moments as he finally gets back into the cockpit of his F2002 on Friday morning.

“I remember it as though it was yesterday,” he said. “The emotion on the podium with the enthusiastic and cheering fans down below. That’s why I think it’s great to celebrate with the fans, even if it’s in another country. There are always a lot of Ferrari fans in Budapest and it was surprising to see their happy reaction. This is the best it can get for a driver on the podium and I am sure I will keep that feeling with me right from Friday, when I am back on the track. I am also keen to get behind the wheel again after the break. When I am out of the cockpit for too long, I start to get withdrawal symptoms!”

With nine wins already to his name this season Michael is hoping that he can set anew record by winning 10 races in a single season. But it has been far from easy for Schumacher and he really enjoyed his holiday with his family. Schumacher took the break as a chance to gather with friends and enjoy some karting and is now ready for the challenges that await in the remainder of the season.

“A lot of friends came to see us and all the children played together, while the adults relaxed,” recounted Michael. “We did some kart racing and had a great time. The previous week had been frantic, even if it all ended well, but that’s a feeling that only comes with hindsight. Now, I am in top shape and can tackle this season’s remaining races in a calm fashion. I can only repeat that, racing with less pressure is definitely more enjoyable and that the Ferrari team has already met most of its objectives. To round off the season in the best possible way, we now want to win the Constructors’ title and do all we can so that Rubens finishes second in the Drivers’ classification. That is what we want and I will do all in my power to ensure it happens.”
