Ferrari hope to perform better in race at Spa

Ferrari had not a good day at qualifying with lead driver Fernando Alonso finishing 6th fastest and team-mate Felipe Massa going out after Q2 to post 14th fastest timing.

Though Alonso was optimistic coming to Spa, the car was struggling in the middle sector to match the pace of, espcially, Mclaren, whose Jenson Button topped the timings for pole position.

Most of the teams, it is reported, didn't try out the new updates, due to limited testing in wet conditions.

This dent severely to teams like Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull, while Mclaren went on using the upgrades.

It was a risk, and it looks like only Jenson tried it, and he came up triumphs, while his team-mate Lewis Hamilton finished 8th fastest.

Ferrari looked to have set-up the car for qualifying, and with the engine taking most of the brunt in the race, the Italian team can be confident of making up places in the race and a podium for Alonso is a possibility.

The biggest disappointment was that of Michael Schumacher, running his 300th GP and not finishing in the top 10, while is team-mate, was out after Q1.
