Alonso one of the best - Vettel

Sebastian Vettel has picked Fernando Alonso as one of the drivers on the current F1 grid, who could be classed amongst the best ever.

The current double world champion also picked Lewis Hamilton, who he said was very quick. Vettel made his comments when speaking to the BBC during the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  He was asked which of his current rivals could go on to be amongst the best to have competed in the sport.

“The ones that stand out are probably Fernando, he's one of the most complete drivers. Lewis is very, very quick. There are plenty of others. Michael is still in the game. I don't think he has lost it,” he said.

“At the moment we have a lot of drivers performing at a similar level - it is very competitive. It is a long list at the moment. We have had a lot of different winners this season and all of those drivers are very competitive and very fast.”

Alonso was also singled out by Christian Horner as the biggest threat to Red Bull this season, in which the Ferrari driver has been the first to win two races. Horner made his comments to ESPNF1. He said the season has been very competitive thus far, but the most obvious challenger was Alonso.

The Ferrari driver has won at Sepang and Valencia so far, and leads the drivers' championship with 111 points.
