 What F1 needs (contd)

4)      Tracks: Many fans felt that tracks play an important part in making races exciting, and the current tracks, designed mostly by FIA’s favoured designer Tilke, don’t encourage racing. People want to see tracks other than Tilke-designed ones and limiting the number of street circuits. We’re fed up of them!!

5)      Rules: The tinkering of rules as often as we’re seeing now was panned. Fans argue for more stable and clear rules, kept for a longer period. Proper assessment of the pros and cons should then be taken into consideration before changes are mandated. The general sentiment leaned towards less regulation, the better.

6)      Points: Some feel the point system needs to reward fewer places to encourage more racing and add value to the points. Others also felt the need to go back to the 10,6,4,3,2,1 system.

7)      Qualification: We had a couple of members suggest points for pole; others who preferred the 12-lap, 1 hour format of years gone by.

8)      Technical freedom: Yep, almost all were in agreement. Teams need to be given more technical freedom; something like KERS was actually a good thing.

9)      Fuel: Some suggested that refueling be brought back, others were in favor of the refueling ban. Use of green fuel was advocated

10)   Testing: More testing was the predominant sentiment, some preferring in-season testing to make its way back.

We also had some radical and out-there suggestions, which are nonetheless very interesting and intriguing. Amongst these:

1)      Patenting of technical innovations for a season by teams so others could not copy the ideas. This would encourage innovation.

2)      Deductions of points or negative scoring for crashing, in case of driver error.

3)      Adjustment and changes allowed in parc ferme.

4)      Inversion of the starting grid.

5)      A complete spec series.

6)      Points for qualification, fastest laps and passing.

7)      Plan the race calendar around rainy seasons: rain always increases the excitement and offeres unpredicability.
