Turkish GP Review 2010

Ok, so it's a week late but here's a rundown of Force India's performance over the Turkish Grand Prix weekend. First off, I was away under canvas in West Wales when all this was going off so, having finally caught up with the race (Sky+ is wonderful!) I thought it was time to update the site.

So, qualifying.  Where did we end up after the session.  Well, this weekend saw the introduction of Force India's F-Duct called on this occasion the Switchable Rear Wing (SRW).  The device like Ferrari's is opperated by the driver blocking a duct using pad on the back of his glove.

The system has seen cars gain 3 to 5mph in straight line speed so perhaps Force India were expecting exponential gains from their system.  It was tested in free practice on Friday and after evaluation, it was run on Tonio's car only.  Adrian ran without it.

Qualifying therefore Tonio should have had the advantage over his team mate.  Tonio finished the first session in 18th place, failing to get through to the second session.  Tonio suggested that a lack of grip was causing him problems and that's why he was so slow.

Adrian however was running in 10th place during Q2 and was in contention for a Q3 place until he was pipped at the post by Michael Schumacher.

Adrian didn't get any running in the morning practice session due to hydraulic problem.  The team struggled to fix it by qualifying but did a great job to get the car ready for the session.

Race day and the team managed to secure another swath of points towards their championship status.  Both drivers managed to make up places off the line with Adrian immediately into a points paying position.  After a slow pit stop he dropped to 13th and battled for most of the race with Alonso and Petrov.  Thanks to a bit of shennanigans, he managed to get himself up to 11th and passed Kobayashi for 10th place.
 
With Mr Webber and Mr Vettel's coming together, he was promoted a further place and ended the race with another two points.  Tonio finished in 13th position suffering still with grip problems.

The team now face the Canadian Grand Prix next weekend and hopefully will be able to work on the problems plaguing Tonio.  Hopefully, the SRW will come in handy along the straights at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
