Friday Practice Session 2 :: Hard Work

In the second free practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers executed a lot of hard work on the way to continuing the preparations for the remainder of the weekend. Nick Heidfeld finished fifth, thus confirming the team's position as third power on the grid.

In session two, Nick proved to be the busiest man of the entire field. The German completed a total of six stints and 42 laps respectively and succeeded in improving stint by stint. On the first timed lap of his final stint, contested on the 'Supersoft' compound, he set his personal fastest lap time of 1:17.827 minutes to secure fifth position behind the McLarens and the Ferraris.

Robert also completed a total of six stints but other than Nick, he didn't contest any long-runs and settled for lapping the 'Circuit Gilles Villeneuve' 29 times. In his final stint, in the closing stages of the session, the Pole went out on the softs and not on the supersofts, hence, he hadn't the chance of setting a lap time as fast as the one of his team-mate. In the end, he crossed the finish line in 1:18.399 minutes and had to settle for 12th place.

Apart from proving the BMW Sauber F1.07's ongoing competitiveness, the second free practice session in Montreal also demonstrated the extreme stability of the car. Both Robert and Nick made not too slight contact with a concrete wall, at certain points in time, and both came in to have the suspension checked. At the end of the day, however, they both could rejoin the action without having the suspension changed.

The fastest lap time of the session (1:16.550 minutes) was set by McLaren's Fernando Alonso.

In the third free practice session, held on Saturday morning from 10.00 to 11.00hrs local time (15.00 to 16.00hrs BST), Nick and Robert will complete their preparations for qualifying and race.
