Vettel Thrilled By Season Kick-Off In Melbourne

Sebastian Vettel's set-up work in the first free practice session contributed to the BMW Sauber F1 Team's great result in Australia. Following this promising start to the season, the 19-year-old is looking forward to the next rounds.

For the BMW Sauber F1 Team, the third position which Sebastian secured in the first free practice session for the Australian GP was a convincing start to the 2007 season. His team-mates, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, successfully continued in this positive vein in the qualifying session and the race.

"We witnessed a thrilling Grand Prix at the very start of the new season here in Melbourne - and a successful one for the BMW Sauber F1 Team," said the team's young test and reserve driver. "The fourth place secured by Nick Heidfeld confirms the good performances we have delivered in pre-season testing. It's great that Nick achieved this result on his own merits, without benefiting from any retirements or other drivers' problems."

"As for my own weekend, it was just fantastic to have the chance to go out on the track in the free practice session on Friday. The conditions were anything but easy. It was wet early on, and then the track started to dry. But it was a lot of fun. Every new circuit represents a challenge," says Sebastian about his maiden appearance at the "Albert Park Circuit".

Now, the young gun is already looking forward to the next race, adding. "The BMW Sauber F1.07's race performance was impressive. That's why I can't wait for the next Grands Prix."
