Relaxed preparations overseas for Nick

Whenever the BMW Sauber F1 Team hits the road for overseas races, Nick Heidfeld is happy. The schedule is not as tight as during the European season, thus offering more chances of getting to know the host country and its citizens. This also applies for the Japanese Grand Prix.

"It's always fun to travel overseas," says Nick. "You have more time prior to the Grand Prix weekend. During the European season, we usually arrive at the venue on Wednesday or Thursday and then, once we arrive, we have to cope with a tight schedule. You don't have much time to go out for dinner or sightseeing."

Nick's Suzuka programme, however, looks slightly different. On Monday, the German travelled from Shanghai straight to Japan to meet friends and enjoy the delicacies of Japanese cuisine. Furthermore, Nick particularly enjoys exploring major metropolises such as Tokyo and Shanghai. "These cities are incredibly beautiful," he says. "We also usually travel early to Australia as it's always nice to have the time to explore the country."
