Kovalainen stays with Renault According to Flavio

Highly rated Finnish driver Heiki Kovalainen will be staying at Mild Seven Renault F1 next season after reports linking the young Finn with a drive for the New BMW team next season where he would partner German Nick Heidfeld

2005 Race of Champions winner Heikki Kovalainen will be in the third seat at Mild Seven Renault next season after being strongly linked with the New BMW team next season. The young Finn was roumoured to be partnering Nick Heldfeld intead of the former 1996 world champion Jacques Villneuve in the second seat in the team. Heikki Kovalainen has impressed in the rexent past with an impressive season in GP2 where he finished second in the championship and loosing out on the title on the last race of the season after leading most of it. Heikki Kovalainen also beat Michael Schumacher in the race of champions at the beginging of the year.


Renault boss and Heikki Kovalainens manager Flavio Briatore has came out and denied the rumour

"In 2006 Kovalainen will be our test driver and will follow the same development program as Fernando Alonso," Briatore confirmed in Autosprint. "He is the future of Formula 1. In 2007 he will definitely race either with Renault or another F1 team."
