Renault V8 on schedule

With the sad end to the V10 engine at the end of 2005, Renault talk about their development and progress of the V8 egine that they will be running in next seasons car the R26. Rob white, Renaults technical director talks about the engine.

Renault are yet to run their V8 engine that they will be using in 2006 championship and this worries many of their supporters as many other teams such as Ferrari and Toyota who are two of their main rivals. They can see Renault falling behind with the progress of the engine nad not testing it in the car until later on. Many Critics of the team claim that so much development went into last years car in the race to win the constructors title and the drivers championship that they have fallen behind in the race to develop the V8 engine. although the Renault team and its technical director and disagree about.


"The entire team at Viry is focused on arriving at the first race in Bahrain as well prepared as possible," White said. "Timing is a crucial aspect of the project, as with any new engine. The project was committed in October 2004 when the 2006 rules were announced, and the timing constructed based on making the best use of our resources for V8 design and development alongside development of the RS25."

"We ran a V10-based V8 demonstrator engine extensively on the dyno to guide our work, and the definitive engine was fired up this summer on the exact planned date," he added. "We have since accelerated our work, to hit our performance and reliability milestones. There is still a lot of work to do, but we are on target."

Hopefully the Renault f1 team will master the V8 in the way they did with the V10!
