The Renault F1 team continued to struggle today at Interlagos by finishing 9th and 14th. The Renault's drivers never challenged for the first positions at any time and they had to manage for grid positions that would make it quite hard for both to reach the podium during the race.

The session was dominated by the Ferrari F1 of Rubens Barrichello and the Williams F1 of Juan Pablo Montoya.

Kimi Raikkonen finished 3rd while Michael Schumacher posted the 8th best time but will have to start 18th due to an engine change because of a crash that made him change the engine.

This would mean that both Alonso and Villeneuve will be promoted one place at the grid and will start 8th and 13th the Brazilian Grand Prix.
