World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz has expressed to the newspaper As his dislike to the show that Formula 1 is giving in the last few years. As a matter of fact the Citroen driver has said that his interest in watching it is because of Fernando Alonso’s performances.
“On Formula 1 there is something similar to the rallys and people are not happy. The practice sessions are not interesting enough and everybody feels that something has to be done to make the show more interesting. Formula 1 is nowadays extremely expensive and the show is not that good as more overtakes happen on pit stops. It is stupid that a race is won because of the speed of one mechanic changing the tyres or because the pit stop strategy.” He said.
Sainz is a big follower of the Moto GP and believes Formula 1 should have more overtaking:
“Moto GP is the best track racing series to follow on television. It is a pity that Formula 1 does not have as many overtaking. The problem is that F1 cars are so quick and they brake in such a short distance that is impossible to overtake” Sainz added.
However, the Spaniard watches Formula 1 races to follow his countryman Alonso:
“As any Spaniard, as a motor and Formula 1 fan I watch Fernando Alonso with lots of enthusiasm because I watch a Spanish driver fighting for victories. Even if races are not much fun I watch them because he is on them. As soon as Alonso retires I also turn off the TV. It is clear that he is the future of Spain and the future of Formula 1, and he will be World Champion”. He concludes.
