Italian Jarno Trulli finished third today at the Spanish Grand Prix after a great race. The Italian had to defend his position until the last lap as his teammate Fernando Alonso was closing on him and finished just 0.6 seconds behind the Italian.

The Spaniard who wanted to be at the podium at his home Grand Prix today was able to erase a 16 second deficit on his lap stint.

The key to the podium for Trulli was a great start in which he was able to overtake three cars and grab first on the first turn.

The Italian led the race on the first 9 laps while his teammate had to settle for 6th behind a slower Rubens Barrichello who was going for a risky two stop strategy.

The strategy paid off as Barrichello finished 2nd 13 seconds behind Michael Schumacher who won for his 5th consicutive win this season.

Renault maintains the second position at the standings and enlarges his lead to ten point over BAR Honda.

Alonso and Trulli are both tied for 4th position on the driving standings behind Jenson Button, who finished 8th today after his porblems in qualifying yesterday, Rubens Barrichello and the leader Michael Schumacher.

Next stop is Monaco a track that should suit well the R24.
