Mike Gascoyne, Renault F1 Technical Director, comments after the Malaysia GP are quite juicy. Here is the most interesting remarks:
"We're not the quickest team but we can certainly race for the podium everywhere."
"We've got to look to finish above fourth in the championship and Williams are probably the ones we need to try and push."
"I think Williams have got a great engine but their car is difficult to handle. We're never going to overtake them on a straight line but I think anywhere we out-qualify them, we can hold them off."
"We made a choice between Button and Fernando Alonso and I think we were right. But Jenson has had a great weekend against Jacques, all credit to him. He has dominated Villeneuve all weekend. In terms of talent and race pace he deserves to be in this pit lane but I was worried about how he'd get on against Villeneuve."
"The extra Friday session has benefited us more than I expected in terms of pure driving. The tyre choice was very clear after we completed 120 laps on it during the Friday morning but ultimately we were on pole because Fernando didn't make even the slightest mistake. He is a super guy but all credit to Jarno Trulli as well, who watched Fernando go out and do the perfect lap, then went straight out and virtually matched it.
"I think we have established that our new car is a big step forward, although the engine still needs to make more progress to be at the forefront of the action. Having said that, the engines haven't missed a beat either here or in Melbourne a fortnight ago."
