Youth Supermoto racing in Great Britain looks set to take a dramatic leap forward next year as the 2006 Moto GB alliance continues to provide improved choice and value for money for British Supermoto competitors.
Southern Supermoto, who ran a very well subscribed debut youth series in 2005, will promote & organise the 12 round UK Youth Supermoto Championship for Moto GB in 2006. The series will visit several exciting and diverse venues including amongst others; the fast European Supermoto style Lydden Hill Circuit near Canterbury and the technically challenging Llandow Circuit in South Wales.
More good news for youth competitors comes in the form of subsidised, control tyres for the series from Maxxis. A spokesman for Southern Supermoto commented “We have worked very hard indeed to ensure that the youth element of Supermoto receives the recognition it deserves next year and the control tyre deal with Triple A Racing is the icing on the cake. It means that in a stroke, we have capped the biggest single cost for dads, whilst also ensuring close and exciting youth racing into the bargain.”
2005 Southern Supermoto Junior Champion Gennaro Dichello actually used the Maxxis control tyres to win the title this year, so competitors won’t be able to use that as an excuse when they arrive back in the paddock to be de-briefed by dad! The youth control tyres feature an intermediate tread pattern to be used in all weathers and only one race compound (medium) will be allowed. Tyres will be available trackside or mail order and will cost just £70 per pair including VAT (£30 front and £40 rear).
To participate in the UK Youth Supermoto Championship, competitors will need to join the Southern Supermoto club and then apply for a Moto GB competition licence. 2006 membership forms and licence application forms will be available from both Southern Supermoto’s own website and the Moto GB website in mid December.
