Tom Gazzard four wins out of four again

Go Star Racing’s Tom Gazzard once again proved his potential at Brands Hatch last weekend by winning all four BMCRC Rookie 600 races, matching his impressive performance in the first round at Snetterton. RAF apprentice Gazzard also took the fastest lap of the race in three of his outings.

Pat Sheridan actually crossed the line a whisker ahead of Gazzard in one of the races only to be penalised for overtaking him under a yellow flag, handing the victory to Gazzard and completing his set.

All four races proved closely fought, with the lead exchanging a number of times between Gazzard, Sheridan and John Angel, but it was 19-year old Gazzard who kept returning to the top step of the podium throughout the weekend to extend his already considerable lead in the championship.

Three other Go Star riders were in action at Brands Hatch: Barry Lukehurst (Minitwins), Paul Firmin (Rookie 600) and Stewart Willetts (Champion of Brands and Clubman 1000 Shootout).

Lukehurst was riding a new Suzuki SV650 for the first time at this meeting and put in some excellent results, which will undoubtedly continue to improve as he develops his new mount. Firmin continued to support Gazzard in the Rookie 600 series with consistently solid finishes throughout the weekend.

In addition to his excellent top 10 finishes in the Champion of Brands series first time out for BMCRC this season, Willetts also entered the Clubman 1000 Shootout. This last race of the meeting proved to be the most spectacular for the talented Go Star rider and his supporters as he made a flying start from the third row on the grid to take the lead by the time he had reached the first corner, Paddock Hill Bend. Excitement grew in the paddock as he held off the hoard of superbikes on his tale until he was forced to retire from the race when his engine suddenly died. An understandably disappointed Willetts is now looking forward to the next meeting at Cadwell Park, where he hopes to convert the promise of his Clubman form into a well deserved win.
