Practice 1: Alonso On Top

We knew that McLaren would be quick at the Monaco circuit, through the extensive testing that all teams were completing last week, however we presumed that Lewis would be the faster of the two, however this is not the case, Fernando appears to be slightly faster than Lewis, even though Fernando was running the super soft tyres, the team finishing the ninety minute session without any problems.

Sadly though we cannot confirm who is the fastest team on the grid at the moment, despite McLaren appearing to be comfortably fastest, as Ferrari (McLaren’s main rivals) normally don’t aim to get the fastest time in the first practice session.

Fernando Alonso completed his fastest time on super soft tyres, while the next few runners ran on the soft tyre, teams will most likely use the super soft tyre for qualifying and the first stint of the race, as the super soft tyre gives the drivers 0.5 to 0.6 seconds a lap in extra pace.

Weather conditions were warm and sunny for the first session, Fernando Alonso would be almost certainly be smiling after his performance, as he has proved all his doubters and critics wrong.

BMW also proved to be fast, from the times that we know from practice one, they are probably the second fastest team at Monaco this weekend, and however this could change if Ferrari can get their setup correct.
