Alonso Gets Confidence Boost From Fellow Drivers.

Ahead of his home grand prix, Fernando Alonso has got a boost of confidence from his fellow drivers; they suggest that Alonso will beat Lewis.

Ahead of Fernando’s home grand prix, (the Spanish Grand Prix) which starts in two weeks on Friday, where Spanish formula one fans cheering him on to go even faster round the 4.6 kilometer circuit.

Fernando must be eager to get his Bahrain demons off his back by beating Lewis Hamilton, as his fans would be hugely disappointed if he failed to win.

"When you are a double World Champion and you have beaten (Michael) Schumacher I do not believe that you are afraid of anyone," Wurz told the newspaper Marca.

Lewis has had a longer relationship with the McLaren team, as he has been connected with McLaren since he was 10; Fernando hasn’t had that pleasure, and has only been connected with for almost 5 months.

"Lewis is new (to F1) but he has been with McLaren for many, many years," Wurz pointed out, "while Alonso has just joined.Honestly I don't think Alonso sees himself in a difficult situation. He knows that while Hamilton has arrived in a very strong way, honestly he still has a long way to go before he is winning championships like Fernando."

McLarens test and reserve driver Pedro De La Rosa, shared a similar view to Alexander Wurz, although his highlight of the season so far for Pedro is the fact that there is two McLaren drivers who are leading the championship. Pedro won’t be testing at Barcelona, presumably to allow McLaren’s drivers to get a better feel for the new circuit with the new improved car, which will feature an aerodynamic upgrade. Pedro will be doing simulation work on McLarens high tech simulator.

"Fernando learns anything very quickly, and Lewis has been around the team for some time," de la Rosa told the official McLaren web site. "For Fernando it is incredible how quickly he has learnt everything about the team, when you consider he only had one day testing in December last year and hasn’t really had a long time with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, but he has already won a race."

"We have been very solid from the start and we’ve proved people who thought that Ferrari were going to walk away with the first few races wrong," he continued. "The objective is not only to continue to fight; it is to win the Championships. The team that will win the Championship is the team that will develop their car better and faster whilst maintaining high reliability."

Ferrari test driver Marc Gene also agreed with what Pedro and Alexander said, and he believes that the correct pecking order will be established at McLaren in the upcoming European races.

"(Hamilton) has surprised everyone, including myself, and probably himself as well," Gene told the Spanish newspaper Marca. "But I am sure that Fernando will soon begin to get the upper hand, although of course I hope that Ferrari do most of the winning!I may be Spanish but I am with Ferrari and we do not want Fernando to be winning," Gene said.

We will be able to see who has the upper hand at McLaren, and indeed who has the best package in the whole field later today, when the testing times come back. We will ofcorse have the latest news as soon as we get it.
