It has been announced that McLaren are doing testing at an airfield in Menorca, to do complete line testing, for the upcoming Spanish grand prix, Fernando Alonso’s home grand prix!
The team will take test driver and DTM driver Gary Paffett to the small Spanish island to do important aerodynamic work on the successful MP4-22.
McLaren have not used the more popular Evington airstrip due to close by residents complaining of the excessive noise that is created by formula one cars, despite this, planes land and take off there and track days are still held at the airfield on a frequent basis, late last year BBC top gear presenter Richard Hammond tested an 10000bhp dragster early in the morning.
Reports suggest that an extra fifty McLaren engineers have flown to the airfield, along with the current test team to run their car on the two kilometre runway.
After this test, McLaren are due to test at the circuit de Catalunya on the 30th of April- the 2nd of may in quest of more performance, Lewis and Fernando will be running on those days, Fernando having two days testing compared to Lewis’s one.
